Children and adults alike will enjoy this beautifully told fable about the power of a mother's love. Based on the award-winning children's book by Barbara M. Joosse, it tells the story of a young Inuit child, Nyla, who disobeys her mother and journeys from her Arctic village to an ice floe in search of her wayward puppy. She discovers that no matter how much trouble she gets into, her mother's love is unconditional and enduring. Kids will enjoy seeing details of Inuit life, learning about the beauty of the frozen Arctic, and watching colorful animals including whales, polar bears, wolves, puffins, and sled dogs. Its warm message, imaginative story, and original score make this tale well worth watching with young children. --Elisabeth Keating

A lovely story about relationships that easily leads to discussions about Alaska, the Inuit people and family. Video expands on the theme of the book making it even more enjoyable. Excellent portrayal of Eskimos and their respect for animals. It was great." "I want to know more about Alaska and sled dogs." "I thought about love and how I treat people." "Mother showed she really loved her daughter even when she was mad." Best for ages 2 to 5.

My 2 and a half year old daughter LOVES this DVD! I love it too! The song, "Celebrate" is great, and I find myself humming it often! I prefer the video over ALL the Disney stories. I think the message is great... the animation is great. It is just the right length. My daughter calls it the "Mama Alaska" video and requests it often... and I really don't mind.

A beautiful, fun video 5 Stars

I have this and Rainbow Fish/Dazzle the Dinosaur. My 2 year old twins love them both. I just wish that there were more like it. The artwork is beautiful, and my kids really like the songs. They of course also teach some nice, family-oriented lessons. Highly recommended!
