Description
Join a precocious golden retriever pup as he takes off on a magical journey to the wilds of the Australian Outback in this wonderful all-animal adventure. Napoleon is a wonderful treat the whole family will love! Life as a house pet isn't much fun for young Muffin, a puppy who dreams of being a "wild dog." So when he gets his chance to escape his suburban backyard in a helium balloon-powered basket, the pup hops on board, changes his name to Napoleon and sets off on the adventure of a lifetime. Along the way he meets some very special friends a chatty parrot, a wise owl, a clever koala and more who help him on his journey for excitement. But fun isn't all that Napoleon discovers on his quest for adventure...he also learns more about the world and himself than he ever thought possible.

This live-action feature follows the adventures of a golden retriever puppy who chafes under his given name of "Muffin" (much preferring his own choice of "Napoleon") and who travels through the Australian outback in search of his canine roots. Plopping, as puppies will do, into a basket suspended by balloons one day, Napoleon drifts from the home of his mother and human family, eventually landing on the rocky shore of Sydney Harbor. There he becomes acquainted with a chatty parrot named Birdo Lucci (say the name aloud, you film buffs) and encounters all manner of animals in the wild: a cagey koala, a maternal kangaroo, an irritated lizard, and the dingoes with whom he wants to bond. The film was produced with an eye toward pleasing young audiences practically anywhere on earth, and the sight gags and visual thrills have a broad, universal appeal, while the many creatures in this film are given human voices on the soundtrack (any language would do, but the English-language actors include Joan Rivers and Dame Edna). On the downside, the dialogue can be a bit coarse ("shut up," "stupid," that sort of thing), though it's never obscene. And while no animals were hurt during the making of the movie, some of them certainly look as if they're placed in stressful situations. --Tom Keogh

I got this movie free from a cereal box mail in offer, and sent it to my mother-in-laws house, hoping for something different for my daughters to watch there. My mother-in-law likes to buy every movie she can find at yard sales or wherever, and I'm sick of my daughter watching movies (particularly Disney), that kill someone off! So they watched it a few times at her house, and everyone said it was cute, so I decided to bring it home and see for myself. A few minutes into the movie, the puppy is in a forest and a cat is trying to KILL him!!!!!!!!!! There is a loud cat growl/screech/whatever you want to call it... I was shocked that this would be in a G rated movie. then, a few minutes later, some birds were taunting Napoleon, and he's told that those birds repeat everything. So the dog goes back and says "I'm a stupid bird." so the bird will repeat that!!! This movie is getting put away for a long time. I just don't understand why movie producers feel the need to have things like this in a G rated movie!!! G should mean it's safe from killing and name calling and any other inappropriate behavior! by the way, before I had seen this movie, but after my daughter watched it at her grandmothers house, she was playing with her dolls, and had one call another stupid. I knew she got it from a movie... and now I know which one!

Napoleon is great for adults too! by Lisa Katzoff (East Rutherford, New Jersey United States) 5 Stars

I'm a grownup and I love this movie! Its one of my all time favorites! I've seen it more than 5 times and I am not afraid to admit it. Napoleon is adorable and so are all the other animal characters. This movie is not violent and it has lots of good jokes in it, which makes it great for kids and all ages too. My husband even liked it! It is well written, beautifully photographed with gorgeous locations, NapoleonNapoleon and it's fun to watch Napoleon's quest for adventure. All adults should see this movie to have fun and escape from reality from time to time.

Baby loves this video by Michele Houghton 5 Stars

This video was a God-sent one, as we traveled up north this weekend and our 12 month old was captivated and content watching Nepolean over and over again (she loves dogs!) during the 6 hour trip. The dog's voice is soothing and the video is action packed for little ones. Napoleon saved our long trip and has a new admirer: our Natalie.

After my daughter borrowed this from the library and watched it four times (and would have watched it twenty) I knew we had to get our own copy. It is good enough that it will keep an adult interested also- at least for the first viewing.
