| New to Tai Chi by Charles R. Goodrich (Montrose, PA USA) 4 Stars October 16, 2009 This video good for beginners because it is easy to follow along with. The only issue I have is with the production(?) It is a bit too "aquarian age" for me. This would be natural given David Carridine's age at the time of filming. Other than that it is a nice "doable" Tai Chi routine,
| | Perfect short workout by S. Singh 5 Stars October 07, 2009 I get a really good stretch from these 30 min workouts. The music and instructor are the reasons i can get my mind to focus....if only for 30mins.
| | Not all I was hoping for by Nelle (Atlanta, GA USA) 2 Stars June 15, 2009 Was disappointed in this video, as it contains very little actual work-out time. Also, the first of the two work-outs wasn't sufficiently challenging, & the second, while more challenging, was impossible to follow (half the movements aren't explained, & the camera angle changes too often).
| | Short, clear and inspiring by E. Minkovitch (Montreal, Quebec) 5 Stars April 06, 2009 This is a really excellent system for getting the benefits out of Tai Chi practice without the long training it requires to master the full form. The genius of this program is that it distills the main movements into a few easily mastered stances and forms, which can be done in a smallest room. The concentrated repetition of these selected forms, at least in theory, provides tenfold the health benefit of an ordinary Tai Chi practice, which is as much an art-form as exercise. This program is not for those who want to learn the real form, it for those who want to get the mind/body benefits Tai Chi quickly.
There are warm-up excercises and a chi-gong routine included, which makes this DVD a valuable health tool.
The video is extremely well put together, backdrop and music very tasteful and help to create a meditative environment. The inset alternate views of Arnold Tayam are very helpful. David's narration is excellent, this is where his acting skills come in very handy.
The DVD contains a lot of useless material as well, like the David Carradine interview, which has nothing to do with Tai Chi or Chi Gong and where he comes across as rather conceited; a few of his songs (you might enjoy them as likely as not) and some of his stills in various silk cheongsams, which, unless you want to print and frame them, are pretty useless. We see some of these great outfits in the video anyway. One useful inclusion is an audio guided visualization, which is a good way to end the program and deepen the relaxation stage achived with the program.
Another thing, is to pay attention to what Arnold Tayam is doing, rather than David, who for some reason gets most of the moves wrong. Luckily, Tayam is prominent in the program, and there is no problem catching him doing all the moves. His expertise will be obvious to you from the start.
If you like Chinese philosophy, don't have time for taking a tai chi class, have a small practice area and are interested improve your health and mood, this if for you.
| | Very Relaxing by Melody L. Miko (Phoenix, AZ) 5 Stars March 26, 2009 This product is the perfect DVD for a short morning stretching workout and a relaxing evening workout. Awesome!
