| tai chi no no by Kimberly J. Naydol (Tulsa) 3 Stars July 15, 2009 This is definitely too tough and boring for a beginner. the instuctor does all moves a few times then expects you to have it perfected. He needs to be facing his rear to us, the student , to really make it learnable!
| | I find this presenter hard to follow. by M. Miller (Omaha, NE USA) 2 Stars June 01, 2009 I have several T'ai Chi dvds and truly enjoy the practice. I found this presenter hard to follow, and had I realized he was the the presenter on the dvd, would not have purchased it. There are other presenters out there who are a lot easier to follow and present in a way that I can truly understand and learn from.
| | why the obvious mistakes? by Martin (Nashville) 2 Stars May 02, 2009 I took it for granted that an Olympic silver medalist would teach T'ai Chi correctly. But right in the first demonstration of the movements, he gets his arm and leg positions mixed up.
I can't understand how they could let this slip by.
I tried to ignore the mistakes and just continue, but once you've lost confidence in the teaching process the meaning goes with it.
| | Good, takes practice and patience by LA Woman (Los Angeles, CA) 3 Stars April 01, 2009 After consideration, I've decided to re-do my review for this DVD. My initial thoughts were that it was hard to follow, but at the time, I didn't realize that T'ai Chi is not "easy"; it requires concentration and lots of repetition. For some like myself who has not studied martial arts before, I had to come to this conclusion on my own.
The mirror issue is a minor annoyance (I just mirror David and ignore when he says "left" or "right").
I still don't understand why the AM workout doesn't have most of the moves from the practice. I still like the am workout, though. I do still wish there was a separate track with just a beginners workout on it for 30 minutes or however long, just so you wouldn't have to FF through the practice every time you want to do the routine.
So, all in all, this DVD isn't as bad as I initially thought. If you are frustrated by not being able to follow the movements, just keep at it and it'll come to you eventually. If you are looking for several different workouts, though, you may want to browse through some other DVDs that have that specific content.
Also, I didn't understand why the AM workout didn't have any of the moves from the practice. I liked the workout, I guess, but that puzzled me. I was looking forward to putting all of the moves together into an actual workout. Now I'll have to buy some other DVD for that, I suppose.
I will probably try this DVD again to practice, but I wish there was more to this DVD, more workouts, etc. Why would I want to spend 45 minutes on the practice part every time?
| | Okay if you are familiar with basic moves by Patti K (SoCal USA) 3 Stars March 05, 2009 I bought this video hoping to learn T'ai-Chi. I was disappointed in that it was not easy to follow and did not fully explain each movement. Don't misunderstand, I like David-Dorian Ross and I love his Budokon Beginning Practice DVD. This is good workout if you are familiar with basic T'ai Chi movements, but for step by step instruction I would recommend DVD's by Tiffany Chen or Terence Dunn.
