EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Description Spoofy-goofy comedy, otherworldly special effects, spectacular space creatures, bedraggled 'bots, and biceps-ripplnig swashbuckling highlight this cult fave. In the future, as the galaxy's water supply starts to run out, a band of pirates searches for a new water source. | Amazon.com The amiable sci-fi spoof The Ice Pirates has earned a small but vocal cadre of admirers thanks to its go-for-broke gags and a healthy disrespect for outer space epics like the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises. An atypically goofy Robert Urich stars as the leader of a band of space pirates who kidnap a princess (Mary Crosby of Dallas fame), and then join her quest to find a mythical planet that can solve the universe’s water shortage. A completely game (shameless?) cast (which includes Anjelica Huston in fetching leather gear, Ron Perlman, John Matuszak, and fantastic film icon John Carradine) and Stewart (The Philadelphia Experiment) and Raffill’s breezy direction help sell the funniest bits (most notably, the notorious "space herpy" scene, and the frantic time-warp finale) and make the more leaden jokes palatable. --Paul Gaita |

| Sci-fi Pirates by Donna Smith (Montana, USA) 2 Stars September 16, 2009 Not quite what I remembered it was like. Dont place to high of an expectation on the movie. It might have been good in its day, but todays standards really make it look amaturish.
| | One of the BETTER SCI-FI B Movies by David P. Rouleau (Still River,MA USA) 5 Stars September 12, 2009 A Very Corny,But Entertaining Movie To While Away The Hours. It Has A Plot Line,Which Many B-Movies Just Seem to be Made of Slap-Stick and EFFECTS!!Robert Urich seems to be playing the role "to the hilt",while it seems like Mary Crosby was only filmed when she wasn't laughing her head off!!!Anjelica Huston seem to be playing her role,as if it would be her LAST MOVIE,just a little too seriously. While the late John Matuszak was having FUN!!!
| | Great by Carol Bowman 5 Stars September 12, 2009 I love the older movies. When this movie stopped playing on the cable channels, I thought I would never get to see it again and now I own a copy. The humor is wonderful and the acting is fun. It is nice to just be entertained!
| | Ice Pirates by anonymous 2 Stars August 30, 2009 Movie just wasn't as funny as I remembered it to be, probably because that was so long ago.
| | Nostalgia by Archetype (ND) 5 Stars August 02, 2009 I was quite young when this movie came out. Watched it on the old 5000 lb top load VHS player. I remember watching it many times over. but then it was lost. I missed it.
I started buying old movies from my childhood, knowing a lot of them were complete crap, but this one surprised me. It's quite cheesy and rediculous, but still a great watch. And for a comedy, it has an amazing story.
I highly recommend this flick to any child of the 80's and to anyone who just wants to see something different.
