EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Description The 24 Forms and the 48 Forms. BETTER HEALTH IN 20 MINUTES A DAY! Learn two of the most popular forms of Tai Chi Chuan, the ancient Chinese martial art which is often described as ‘moving meditation’. The ‘Simplified’ 24-posture form is taught and demonstrated by Master Liang, Shou-Yu, with martial fighting applications. The form is shown from several angles, with breathing instructions. The Standard 48-posture form is also demonstrated. This expanded DVD edition contains much more instruction than the VHS editions. DVD-only Detail Sections for both forms instruct each movement, and offer ‘guidelines’ for refining your training. Chapter markers for each technique and extensive DVD navigation make it simple to find any posture on the DVD with just a couple clicks, so you can continue your study where you left off. In only 20 minutes a day, you can gain the health benefits of Tai Chi Chuan: increased strength and energy, better balance, and improved bodily awareness. Excellent for beginning students, those who want a low-impact alternative to jogging or aerobics, and those with limited time for exercise. | Works At Your Pace by R. Viar (Lees Summit, Missouri) 4 Stars November 17, 2009 This is an great video for the practicing or aspiring martial artist who is interested in learning more about the history and benefits of Tai Chi. The DVD provides an ideal format for individual instruction, using short, well-labeled chapters that include each of the various postures presented at a comfortable, learnable pace. Master Liang is an exceptional teacher who provides perfect presentation of the 24 postures in appropriate detail, at a variety of angles, including specifice inhale/exhale points throughout the form. Of particular value is his solo presentation of each posture, followed by the self-defense presentation countering an attacker. For those who want more, also included is the longer 48 posture form. A must-have to complete your library!
| | Great Detailed Instructions by Brassy (Charlotte, NC) 5 Stars November 16, 2009 This provides the history of Tai Chi along with detailed instructions and views. Excellent choice for a beginner.
| | Good video by Laura (USA) 4 Stars September 30, 2009 Good video to learn the technique. I especially like the fact that he faces away to help you learn it in the right direction. Would be enhanced with a mirror for him to face. Also think it is great for an intermediate tai chi practitioner. Beginners may have trouble learning the movements.
| | Tai Chi Cannot Be Simplified by Ima Bird - Alice (Shawnee, Ks USA) 3 Stars September 14, 2009 Tai Chi is a difficult process to learn and I first started with an extremely slow and verbal lesson on another DVD. On this DVD no explanation of the the 24 steps is given when you practice the moves. He runs through the 24 moves two times in the forward position and then one time in the rear position. I've been doing these moves about 4-5 times a week for 5-6 weeks and have made slow progress. It would be best to start with a DVD like I did which was David Dorian-Ross.
| | an amazing DVD by D. Pappas 5 Stars September 09, 2009 This DVD in addition with the book is a very helpful guide in practicing Thai chi chuan especially for those who have already practiced Thai chi in a group and want to continue performing it by their own.
The very respectful master Shou-Yu Liang and his student have helped me a lot with their performances on the DVD as I don't have the chance to follow a class. More over the equivalent book with the introduction in the philosophy and the principles of Thai chi and the detailed instructions on the forms,Tai Chi Chuan: 24 & 48 Postures with Martial Applications is a complementary approach to the system.
It was very useful to have both of these excellent products.
