| Excellent quality video and audio by Jonathan Foulkes (Atlanta, GA) 5 Stars February 23, 2008 If you are looking at this product, then you know who Satellite is, one of the hidden pearls of the prog-rock movement. And it's great to finally see them perform.
This live concert recording is very well mastered and engineered from both an audio and video perspective.
The audio is a full 5.1 surround mix, with good balance of `live space' ambiance, and the occasional creative mix of keyboard or guitar into the surround field.
The music and playing stays pretty close to the studio versions, with only slightly different mix levels really being noticeable, the energy of the live playing is palpable and welcome.
The video mastering is impressive for a low-budget band, with a full anamorphic 16:9 video that when upscaled on my 100" screen, could pass for HD. Colors are well balanced and nicely saturated without being gaudy. The camera work is generally good, including some nice long shots of the band and venue.
The one downside is the video mix focuses too much on the lead singer, and not enough on the other outstanding musicians. This is a common sin in music video, and one I wish producers would get over.
Overall, it's an excellent disc, one which I put in to demo my system, and wind up listening to practically the whole thing, as the music content and quality as well as the video are so compelling.
For those of you not fully familiar with Satellite, this makes a great introduction to the band and gives you pretty much the cream of their repertoire in one very enjoyable disc.
Highly recommended.
