Description
Insomnia, defined as trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, is a common problem. Occasional insomnia is experienced by more than a third of American adults, and chronic insomnia is known to effect more than one in ten. In this program, Dr. Rachel Manber addresses changes in sleep across the life span. She discusses factors that contribute to insomnia and offers a range of non-pharmacological options for management and treatment to help you get a good night's sleep. Rachel Manber, PhD is associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine and Director of the Insomnia and Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program at the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic. Dr. Manber's research has focused on enhancing non-pharmacological treatments for depression and for insomnia. In particular she has conducted research on psychotherapy for chronic depression, acupuncture for major depression, and cognitive behavioral treatments for insomnia. Combining her interest in these two disorders Dr. Manber is now focusing on ways to enhance the treatment of depression in individuals with sleep problems by addressing the symptoms of both depression and the insomnia. Dr. Manber also has a strong interest in women's health, including women's sleep, depression with a focus on depression during pregnancy, and postmenopausal hot flashes
