EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Description The childhood obesity epidemic is one of the greatest threats to America's health for at least the next several generations. Before the end of this decade, more than 20% of all children in the United States will be overweight and, therefore, at risk for serious future health problems. In this program Dr. Robinson addresses the different factors that cause obesity and provides a range of prevention and treatment strategies. Thomas Robinson, MD, MPH, is Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Center for Healthy Weight at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. He has been involved in advocacy for obesity prevention nationally. Dr. Robinson focuses on "solution-oriented" research, developing and evaluating effective health promotion and disease prevention interventions for children and adolescents and their families. Robinson's research is grounded in social cognitive models of human behavior, uses rigorous methods, and is performed in generalizable settings with diverse populations, making the results even more relevant for informing clinical and public health practice and policy. |
