EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Description A chilling examination of the psychology of the suicide bomber, from kamikaze pilots in WWII to recent bombings in Israel. As experts note, suicide terrorism is not a personal phenomenon, but a group one. We talk to an Israeli Army senior intelligence analyst, an attorney who defends suicide bombers, a failed kamikaze pilot, two failed suicide bombers from the Middle East, a military commander of Hamas, and bomb-makers. We also hear from a doctor who treats bombing victims and several survivors. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 1 review)
| Very Basic Look by S. B. Anderson (USA) 4 Stars April 26, 2007 History Channel's "Inside the Mind of a Suicide Bomber" is a well thought out idea, exploring the human fascination with what we construe as evil or bad. The term "suicide bomber" has an apocalyptic and terrifying sound to it, and getting inside the mind of a suicide bomber sounds like a thrill ride.
Well researched, the program covers all the aspects of suicide bombers - from the Japanese kamikaze to present day extremists. Good choice of interviews and attempted explanation, the program tells us about the inside of a suicide bomber's mind from the point of psychologists and researchers. Rare are the interviews with the fundamentalists that have lived to tell what went through their minds. A surviving Japanese kamikaze pilot was interviewed, although the ideology of the desperate Japanese Empire in the last throes of World War II can hardly be compared to evolved, different, drastic ideologies of today. Hence I found the kamikaze reference a bit out of place.
The program is a bit too short to cover such a vast topic, and the better title would perhaps be "Overview of the Suicide Bombers", as the current title indicates a thorough analysis, which is sadly lacking in this documentary. Nonetheless, the program has some great footage and educational interviews, and is a good segway for further research.
