EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Warning: You're about to experience the most breath taking, exhilarating and inspirational ride of your life. The world's best skiers go beyond their dreams to conquer the steepest runs ever faced. From the sheer cliffs of Grand Teton, to the treachery of Chamonix France, to the untouched Alaskan peaks of Valdez, these extremers sacrifice their lives for a thrill but what a thrill it is. Fantastically beautiful images of the most magnificent peaks on the globe along with devastating avalanches and fatal spills only serve to push them harder. But you're about to discover -- not everyone who goes up the mountain -- returns. | Amazon.com Thrilling and spectacular, Steep is a mesmerizing documentary in the Warren Miller mold about extreme skiing, but with more emphasis on the drive and psychology of the adrenaline-hooked athletes involved. A number of skiers are captured in archival and original footage braving the odds against surviving runs down astonishingly steep, dangerous slopes. Among the subjects is Bill Briggs, who climbed in 1971 to the top of Grand Teton in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and skied down, an unprecedented effort echoed by Europeans who later did the same thing down the French Alps in Chamonix. Doug Coombs, who twice won the World Extreme Skiing Championship, is also profiled and speaks honestly about the possibility of dying for the sake of living life to the fullest as a thrillseeker. Written and directed by Mark Obenhaus, a producer for several of the late Peter Jennings’ television news specials, Steep is visually gorgeous, and literally breathtaking whenever a skier is seen barely outracing an avalanche nipping at his heels. Steep attempts, somewhat, to get inside the heads of the pros who do this sort of thing, but it is hard for many of the subjects to articulate what they feel. It’s best just to be knocked out by their deeds and let the fantastic visuals in Steep speak for themselves. --Tom Keogh |

| Not so much Mark Obenhaus, but William A. Kerig by Gail Drake 5 Stars June 11, 2009 William A. Kerig was the mind behind this whole damn documentary, Mark was a bit more on the bystander with a few ideas side of things. The credit should go to Mr.Kerig. So wake up people.
| | Great film about the history of extreme skiing by John D. Mattson (Nederland, CO) 5 Stars May 17, 2009 This film combines great cinematography with some very personal stories about how the sport of extreme skiing has evolved. Bill Briggs and Doug Coombs lived in different eras, but they are both legends and non-living proof of how dangerous the extreme sports can be. I found it very thrilling to watch the very talented skiers push their limits on some very classic descents. And the interviews and bits of history combine to make it one of the best ski films ever. Dancing on the Edge of an Endangered Planet
| | A 'must watch' ski film by Racer dad (Lake Tahoe, NV) 5 Stars May 09, 2009 By far the best 'ski movie' that I have ever seen. This is not the typical ski porn, but a thoughtful documentary type film highlighting some of the best in the business. Stunning photography and thoughtful commentary. The danger involved in pushing the limits is underscored by the fact that two of the stars of this two year old film are no longer with us.
| | steep dvd by Edith Angelo 4 Stars April 07, 2009 it was a gift for someone. The recipient is an avid skiier and he loved it.
| | Awesome Documentary by skierdave 5 Stars March 09, 2009 This film is a really interesting account of the development of extreme skiing. It is not just action shot after action shot so if you expect only that you might be disappointed or a bit bored. This movie has the action shots and sweet cinematography but also history and interviews, it is actually a documentary. To really enjoy it you should want to know how big mountain skiing came to be, along with seeing ridiculous descents.

| The Edge of Never: A Skier's Story of Life, Death, and Dreams in the World's Most Dangerous Mountains by William A. Kerig (Author)
In the world of big-mountain skiing, Trevor Petersen was a legend. Appearing in countless films, magazines and photo shoots, his ponytail flying behind him, he was the very embodiment of the freewheeling spirit of extreme skiing in the 1980s and early ’90s. Then it all came to an end. On February 26, 1996, while skiing in Chamonix, France – the so-called Death Sport Capital of the World – an avalanche swept Trevor away. His body was found sitting up in the snow as if gazing at...
