EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Amazon.com Airdate: 03/16/08 Why do we sleep? Lesley Stahl visits sleep labs to find out, and learns that sleep is as essential to our health as nutrition and exercise. In fact, scientists are seeing a link between lack of sleep and serious health conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. A good night's sleep is also essential to memory, which is something college students should consider before their next all-nighter. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.5 based on 3 reviews)
| Run time = 25 Minutes by Anonymous 4 Stars December 02, 2008 I watched this when the program originally aired and it seems expensive for a 25 minute clip.
I think the health benefits for my friends and family to watch this make it worth the money.
| | I am showing this to my college students! by dgbkcu (Kentucky, USA) 5 Stars July 05, 2008 I stumbled across this program when a rerun was aired. I found the report on sleep's affect on memory very intriguing. I teach voice at a university and I am going to have my students watch this video. Hopefully they will realize now that trying to memorize a song the day of their lesson won't cut it. They need practice combined with sleep. (which means they will have to practice in advance!) I think this video is for all college students. Partying is fun, but everyone needs their sleep!
| | Good Science by John W. Mcburney 5 Stars May 09, 2008 I am the medical director of an accredited sleep disorders center and saw this "60 Minutes" segment when it originally aired in early 2008. I thought it was superb and wanted a copy to use as a patient education tool. I was thrilled when an assistant at "60 Minutes" directed me to Amazon to purchase this segment on DVD. This report accurately summarizes key knowledge regarding sleep and the effects of sleep deprivation and sleep loss. This is a message that needs to be heard by a broad public and it is very effectively presented. The sleep clinicians and scientists that are interviewed are among the most well respected and authoritative in the field.
I most highly recommend this DVD to anyone with sleep problems or who is interested in the role of sleep in health.

| 60 Minutes - Eyewitness (March 8, 2009)
Airdate: 3/08/2009 There should be no better witness to a crime than an eyewitness, but in this report, Lesley Stahl shows how eyewitness memory can be faulty. She tells the story of Jennifer Thompson, who in 1984 picked Ronald Cotton out of a lineup, certain he had raped her. Cotton served 11 years in prison before DNA set him free. It turns out, our memory is more fragile and malleable than we think.
