Description
The latest installment of National Geographics popular franchise In the Womb follows the embryonic and fetal journey of one of nature's most fascinating reproductive miracles identical twins. Witness the key moments during early embryogenesis from the spontaneous splitting of a single fertilized egg into identical twins through to the major milestones of twin fetal development, ending with their dramatic births. Along the way, learn how skin color is formed; what happens when aberrations in early development occur, producing conjoined twins; and how twins with ambiguous genitalia (hermaphrodites) can develop. Meet a pair of identicals who were separated at birth and met for the first time four decades later. Then, see dramatic 4-D ultrasound images of twins interacting in the womb in real time.

Not Seeing Double by Jeffery Mingo (Homewood, IL USA) 4 Stars

This documentary shows how identical twins are created. However, it discusses many pairs of identical twins who look nothing alike. For example, they showed identical twins in which one twin was just half the size of the other. The point is that numerous factors during pregnancy can affect the twins differently. As a person who hates science, I found this work friendly, rather than science-dorky. I would consider giving this as a gift to people who are twins.

In a compelling scientific detective story, The Ghost in Your Genes explores the provocative idea that there may be more to inheritance than genes alone. New clues reveal that a second epigenetic chemical code sits on top of our regular DNA and controls how our genes are expressed,...
