This is the perfect breakfast: the oats are steel cut, so you still get the fiber and the long lasting energy since it takes longer to break down the groats. But, they're not the whole groat, so it cooks faster. I haven't ever timed it, but I usually cook these in about 10 minutes or so (I always hear people that say to cook them longer, and I have never needed to--maybe I like them a little crunchy??). I also add a little bit of oat bran, and it's a super filling breakfast. I prefer to buy my oats from the bulk bins at the store, but when I can't get to the natural foods store, I buy these. They're super yummy!

Thanks to a tip from a friend we recently bought a Zojirushi rice cooker which also has a "Porridge" setting. Wow, are these oats ever delicious when cooked that way. We will never go back to rolled oats and it is terrific to have such an easy way to make them perfectly. As much as I love this product, I don't love Amazon's price. I just bought two 30 oz containers of this exact product at our local Trader Joe's for only $2.29 each.

This is steel cut oats as they should be. Fresher than McCann's and cut thicker than Bob's. I eat oatmeal every weekday and these are easily the best oats I've ever had.

I boil 4 cups of water, then put my cup of oats in the pot, cover it, and turn down the heat. Half hour later I have oats for me and my roommate! They're good with brown sugar, ground flaxseed, and milk. Mmmmm. You can also refrigerate a batch and reconstitute them in the microwave with milk. Oats are great!
