Product Description
EarCheck® Monitor accurately detects the presence of middle ear fluid (i.e. otitis media with effusion) which may be associated with acute ear infection. It is clinically proven to be safe and reliable and provides accurate results in seconds when used according to instructions.
The EarCheck® Monitor for home use is based on the same technology available for doctor's offices. This technology uses sound waves to detect middle ear fluid.
The EarCheck® Monitor sends a pleasant chirping sound into the ear canal. Some of this sound bounces off the eardrum and travels back to the instrument's built-in microphone. Sophisticated electronics inside the monitor analyze the reflected sound to determine if the eardrum is working normally. If there is fluid in the ear, the eardrum's vibrations may be restricted. The more fluid present, the greater the reflected sound.
The procedure is quick and painless. Within seconds, you will be able to determine if your child has fluid in the middle ear. The EarCheck® Monitor displays the results in a way that is easy for you to interpret and can assist you in determining when to seek medical attention. |

It's been accurate every time from yes - there is an infection so consult a doctor to maybe - not full blown yet but red to no - all clear.

I actually purchased one on clearance for $20 at Walmart. I took that one back because it didn't work. It failed the selftest. I exchanged it for a new one and that one failed the selftest too. I contacted the company and they were very agreeable. They gave me an RMA number and asked me to send in the non-working one in exchange for a NEW one with NEW software. I just got it today and it seems to work perfectly. Now I guess I just have to wait to see if it detects ear infections. If you can, I would spend the $20 at Walmart and send it in for one that works. I think it would be a fabulous tool if it turns out it works.

I bought this item thinking it would save me from making useless trips to the doctors office. I took my two kids to the doctor yesterday and it turns out they both had double ear infections. The montior did not detect this. I tried it several times and got a different reading each time. The reading ranged from 1-4 and it was different every single time. If it hadn't been for my 4 year old telling me it hurt inside her ear, I would have thought they were just fine. This is a huge waste of money.

I recieved this item as a gift when my daughter was born, I never needed it with her. 3 years later when her brother was born it came in very handy. It has told me about every ear infection he has had ( a total of 17). He is 2 and dosent stay still to long so it takes a few tries to get it right but it does work.

This product is hard to get a reading. The child cannot be fussing at all and it takes about 10 seconds to get a reading. During that 10 seconds, the child has to be completely still and quiet - very difficult. It read as yellow (2 out of 5) on my 8 month old and she had a very serious ear infection. It read green (1 out of 5) on my older daughter when she also had an ear infection which kept me from taking her to the doctor and her ear drum ruptured. I would not recommend this product. Good old parental instinct is much better.
