How to Use the HappyLight Deluxe Plug into a properly grounded outlet and turn the unit on using the on/off switch. Allowing a few minutes for the bulbs to achieve full illumination, position yourself facing the HappyLight. Light therapy consists of sitting close to the Sunshine Simulator with your eyes open. However, do not stare directly into the unit. While staying oriented toward the light, feel free to engage in other activities such as reading, checking emails, hobby making and crafting, sewing, needlepoint, painting, or working at a computer or desk. Usage time depends upon your body and how it responds to light. Typical exposure is 30 minutes per day. The ideal exposure time is in the morning, soon after waking. You should experience results within a week of daily exposure. It is recommended that you limit your exposure to the light during the evening, as it might affect your ability to fall asleep. Each person's sensitivity to light is different. It is important to establish a distance and schedule that is comfortable for you. This light is very big, much bigger than I estimated, although measurements were given in the product description (I must have forgotten the exact specs). I hung it on the wall next to my bed, but it didn't work for me. I returned it for a more portable model, since I need it after I awake in the morning, not before. This is just too big to easily carry around the house. However, it was very bright and seemed to be well made. It was certainly well-packaged. It arrived only days after I ordered it, although I opted for the free shipping, which takes longer. Returning it to Amazon took only seconds, and they provided me with all of the materials I needed to do so. The credit came through to my account immediately after they received it.

With equal amounts of skepticism and desperation, I bought Verilux's Happy Light on line. I couldn't be happier. This model is pretty big and sits like a satellite on my desk, but it does the trick.
After a few days, I think I mentally fooled myself into thinking it was working. But really, after two weeks, I know it is. When 5 o'clock rolls around, I'm not thinking about putting on my pajamas and calling it a night.
It's absolutely worth the money, so if you're feeling tired and worn out from the cold and lack of sun, go for it. Until the snow and cold make their exit, I'll have my morning coffee and check my email with the Happy Light.

I purchased this as a gift for my room mate who suffers from SAD. It seemed to have an immediate effect. She turns it on first thing in the morning every day, and loves it. I am really pleased that I purchased this item. It was one of the more expensive items offered, but I think it was well worth the price.

I live in Maine, and the winters here are long and dark! This November I could feel myself going down, so I did some research and purchased a HappyLight. Within a few days of using it, I definitely started to feel lighter and less bothered by the darkness/cabin fever.
It's a very bright light and I use it for general lighting in my studio at night (I also use task lamps, but this light brightens up the whole room). My routine is great - I get up early, make a cup of tea and read something challenging sitting next to the HappyLight for about 30-45 minutes. My mood is greatly improved this year, and I'm sure it's due to the HappyLight.
The stand on the back is convenient since it folds flush for storage. There is also a hole on the back so the light could be hung on a wall. The light has a very smooth design and is well made. Verilux is a Vermont company - support New England business!
If you are considering light therapy for SAD, don't wait any longer - get a HappyLight and feel better!

This light has been wonderful. It rejuvenates me in the afternoon at my "low" point. It has helped significantly with my SAD. We even used it to help cure my nephew's bilirubins with light therapy.
I'd strongly recommend it to anyone.
