Not only does the HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor utilize Omron's patented IntelliSense technology, but it also features the innovative Comfit Cuff. The ComFit Cuff is pre-formed for a quick and proper fit that is perfect for both medium and large-sized arms (nine to 17 inches). It's easy to apply the cuff to your arm without any assistance -- simply wrap the cuff around your arm and press start. In seconds your blood pressure and pulse are displayed on the large digital panel. Proven time and time again, Omron's IntelliSense technology ensures accurate, clinically-proven, and comfortable readings. And with a 90-memory recall with date and time stamp, you can track your blood pressure and pulse progress as your work towards a healthier lifestyle. The Omron HEM-780 delivers accurate, clinically-proven blood pressure readings in the comfort of your own home. To take an accurate reading, first position the green marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm. Next, place your arm on a table so the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart. Instructions for Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitors There are several easy steps to taking your blood pressure with this monitor. First of all, avoid eating, smoking, and exercising for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Remove tight-fitting clothing from your upper arm, and sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Slide your left arm through the cuff and position the cuff approximately 0.5-inches above the elbow. On the cuff you'll notice a green marker; position this marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm. Next, secure the cuff with the Velcro material. The cuff should make direct contact with your skin, but you should be able to easily fit your index finger between the cuff and your arm. Place your arm on a table so that the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart. Rest comfortably in a relaxed environment for at least 15 minutes prior to taking your blood pressure measurement. Once you feel relaxed, simply press the start button and remain still. The cuff will begin to inflate and numbers will appear on the display as the heart symbol flashes. When the measurement is complete, the cuff will deflate, and your blood pressure and pulse rate will display on the screen. If you need to stop the measurement at any time, simply press the on/off button and the monitor will immediately deflate. And remember, always consult your physician for specific information about your blood pressure. What is IntelliSense? The IntelliSense monitor inflates the cuff to the ideal level with each use -- you never have to make any adjustments to select an inflation level. I had written an earlier review with 5 starts anticipating that the H Model 780 would be just as good as my older Model 739.
So far, I have found this not to be true.
In the past years, I had taken the older 739 with me to various doctors' and specialists' offices to compare BP readings, and the readings were very close matches. These were matched at two specialists offices (urology and primary care) at the University of Washington Medical Center as recently as two months ago.
So, I was very surprised to see that my BP's had jumped up about 10 to 15 points on both the systolic and the diastolic. So, now I track my BP numbers as both "old machine readings" and "new machine readings." The results are quite different.
Also, in anticipation of the 780, I read praise here about the ease of the cuff use. I have found it quite the reverse. Far more difficult, and even had to telephone the Omrom help line to find out what I was doing wrong: I was not cuffing tight enough. So, I was told to "hold" the cuff down with my chin, while I cinched the velcro strap tighter and leave only a "one finger gap" between the cuff and my arm. This is far more difficult to do than with the older 739 cuff.
I have several other Omron products: the pedometer, the wrist BP reader, and I'm quite happy with them, but I have not yet figured out "what gives" with the new 780. I am 71, and have been taking my own BP and blood glucose readings for 20 years.

My only concern with this unit is the number of error messages
I get while trying to use it. The main error is in getting it to
start. After disconnecting and reconnecting a few times it will
work. I've tried following all of the instructions, but still get
to many error messages to be able to rate it higher.

The Blood Pressure Cuff arrived quickly and well packaged. I was pleased with the storage bag for the unit making it easy to put away after each use. It was easy to put the cuff on, the instructions were easy to understand, and my doctor is pleased with the memory capabilities to record my history. I highly recommend this unit.

I purchase this for my mother and she love it. Up until now seems to work fine. Easy to use and set up. Readings appear to be accurate. The automatic ComFit Cuff gets pretty tight but is not that bad. It came with a carry on bag batteries and A/C adapter which is nice. Overall good purchase we are happy with it.

My husband's Dr. recommended that we buy a blood pressure monitor so we could track his high blood pressure at home. This monitor is simple & easy to use. Just read the directions, place the cuff on your arm & push the button. We've had it since June, we both use it & are very happy with it.
