| They don't grow as show in the photo at all. by C. Yang (Luanda, Angola) 2 Stars October 27, 2009 It's been over 4 weeks since I planted the seeds following the packaged insturction, but they are growing as it's promised. I made sure each pot gets enough water and sun but 2 of the 4 I planted didn't even germinate at all... :(
| | Herb Garden by J. G. Obrien 4 Stars September 22, 2009 A neat little herb garden. Comes with six seed packets and four pots, was not sure which packets to choose. It is very clean, as they use a treated sponge to grow the seeds instead of dirt. For a simple little herb garden, with very little fuss or mess, this is perfect.
| | Chia failure by W. Bellamy (Dale, Texas) 1 Stars August 30, 2009 I gave this product as a gift to my cooking-enthusiast daughter who was delighted to grow her own fresh herbs. This product was a train wreck. After carefully following the directions only one plant sprouted and it soon died. Perhaps the prodict was old or not properly handeled, I don't know. Don't waste your money.
| | chia herb garden by L. Jones 4 Stars January 22, 2009 Good product, started sprouting after a few days of setting it all up. The parsley seems to be having a bit of trouble, but basil, cilantro, and dill are all sprouting beautifully. It feels weird to just sprinkle the seeds on top of the "sponge" as the instructions tell you to do so, but it sure works.
| | Worked well enough for my five year old by L. Brossette (Birmingham, Alabama United States) 3 Stars January 14, 2009 My child loves to plant annuals with me and even asked for garden tools for Christmas. A friend bought her the Chia Herb garden for Christmas. Overall it has been a good experience for her. The plants were easy to care for and sprouted quickly, perfect for a five year old's attention span. We followed all the instructions, and everything sprouted including the chives (people seem to be having a problem with the chives). We planted just a couple of weeks before Christmas and it is now couple of weeks after New Years and the plants have stalled. They are neither dying, nor thriving. I would say they are past the sproutling stage, but none are mature enough to even be considered for cooking. Perhaps we will try repotting.
The special sponges dry out really fast and you will find that you need to re-water every day. And I mean re-water completely, not just a remoistening.
I'm sure that Chia products must sit on the shelves for long periods of time. I suspect people who are having no success are picking up old products.
