EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description As a Registered Dental Hygienist, this is the same model night guard I wear and recommend to my patients! Excessive grinding and clenching of the teeth can be extremely damaging. Premature failure of dental restorations, breakage of teeth and gum line recession are common problems associated with the grinding/clenching habit known as bruxism. In our dental practice we make custom fitted guards that sell for hundreds of dollars but we offer these as an alternative when cost is a concern. After trying dozens of OTC (over the counter) mouth guard models these have proven to be the best fitting most comfortable day/night brux/clench/grind guard. These will double as a sports mouth guard but are intended to be used as a protective device for people who grind and clench their teeth and are wanting a better more comfortable fit than a sports mouth guard can offer. |

| Great product by Jared T. Mathis (AC) 4 Stars November 04, 2009 I use the clear mouth guard for my bottom teeth and it seems to fit perfectly. I am able to close my mouth and not worry about the mouth peice falling out at night.
| | Wow! Very impressed with this night guard. by nishiko (United States) 5 Stars November 04, 2009 I lost my expensive dentist-made night guard a couple months ago. Thought I'd find it in a week or two, but didn't. I had used these previous ones for about 4 years. Oh well.
I can't afford the $500 my dentist wants to make a new one, and a couple of my teeth were starting to hurt, so I checked Amazon and decided to try these, based primarily on the very good overall average rating.
I am very very impressed. Other than being bulkier than the dentist one I had before, the material it is made of is actually more comfortable otherwise. I'm extremely impressed with this brand night guard!! AND, it saved me about $480, and works great! What more can you ask??
It is important to read the directions carefully, as you're only supposed to try fitting each included guard twice (and special way you have to do it). Not supposed to redunk it in the hot water to refit after two tries. Luckily, after the first try on the big one, it wasn't quite right, but by then I knew what I did wrong and corrected it.
Also, before fitting, make sure you have a fingernail file or two on hand as well as matches or a lighter to help perfect the finished feel in your mouth. This is actually recommended in the instructions (with the requisite urging to be careful not to hurt yourself with the lighter).
Anyway, excellent product, and I just want to recognize that and help other people find a great solution to a potentially VERY expensive problem.
| | Bruxism Grinds by Beauty Is As Beauty Does 5 Stars October 10, 2009 But so does coughing up $500 for a nightguard custom made for you by a dentist.
I will start off by affirming that these do not last as long as those made by dentists. But even if I was to replace this every month, it'd still be cheaper than a dentists nightguard.
One of the drawbacks of OTC dental guards is that they can irritate the gums. I especially noticed this when my nightguard would get old and worn out, kind of thin in some spots. After a while, it doesn't fit quite the same and the constant uneven pressure can be bad for the gums.
What I like about Dental Hygiene Preferred Complete Day/Night Mouth Guard Kit, Colors may vary is that you are given 2 different sizes that fit your mouth different. I guess my mouth is average sized(I'm not a mouth expert so I couldnt really tell you). IMO, alternating them helps. The different sizes put the pressure in different spots since they fit different. Which, IMO, results in less potential for irritation on the gums.
With the economy the way it is, few can really afford the custom made nightguards. The quality of this product is excellent and the size options are nice to have. This is the only OTC nightguard that I will use.
Below are some helpful materials on Bruxism/TMJ. I have decided that I am not just going to protect my teeth at night, but also try to get rid of the problem altogether.

| | Easy to use by Wilmette Gal (Near Chicago) 5 Stars October 06, 2009 Very specific directions make this easy to fit and comfortable. As nice as the one from my dentist for about $480 less.
| | good but not great by Ken Avent (New Market, TN USA) 2 Stars October 06, 2009 This item is ok - but just that. The larger of the two guards is extremely thick and very uncomfortable -with sharp edges just behind the front teeth - a sure tongue problem for me.
The smaller of the two is one that I've used for a couple of weeks but it is so thick in the front that my lips won't close completely and that's a problem. It's actually caused some lip chapping due to dryness.
I also got this item: Grind Guard - Relieves Symptoms Associated with Teeth Grinding and while I think it will work better I destroyed the initial one in the process of a second attempt in getting it to fit. The company told me they'd replace it but I've yet to see the replacement. It's much thinner and worked great until I decided to "refit" it.
