| Great product, but much cheaper elsewhere by R. A. Hannon (Nashua, NH) 4 Stars November 03, 2009 I got this at Christmas Tree Shop in Nashua, NH for $1.99. It wasn't a sale price either. I bought a bunch of them to give others. Look in the area that has travel size items and gadgets. (Apologies to Amazon. I love shopping here and mostly your prices are excellent.)
Pros: clearly audible voice reminders
ability to program more than one time
lightweight for travel
Cons: difficult to set up times (and I am fairly good at that stuff)
As far as the set up, it might be nice for you to help set up the times for the recipient, especially if they are not techy or are visually impaired.
Overall I like this item and use it as a time prompt for things such as getting off the computer at night, daily tasks, etc. If you don't press the red button, it reminds you again shortly after. I can see this being useful for kids' to remind of bedtime (as long as you follow up w. them of course).Note that you can't program the audio to say what you want (It says "Take pillbox 1, Take pillbox 1) but it can still be a useful prompt to remind of other tasks.
| | Exactly what I was looking for - only wish larger compartments by Slate 4 Stars October 22, 2009 I bought this medication manager for my aging mother who struggles to remember to take her medications. I was excited and hopeful when I found this product as I had struggled to find a daily manager that had separate lids for each compartment. I also preferred the daily option since setting up a week's worth of medication overwhelms my mom. She is more efficient and focused to do one day at a time. This arrived quickly and luckily I was home visiting shortly thereafter to get it set up. Setup was simple. I did worry that I might break it when lifting the speaker to access the programming buttons yet it did not break. Just needed an extra oomph to open it.
I programmed 3 of 6 available alarms. Some of the previous reviews mentioned not being able to program more than 4 but from what I scrolled through when setting up, I did not/would not have that problem as it gave me the option to setup all 6 alarms. One thing that it states in the instructions is that you have to set them up in order so if you try and skip the box 4 alarm and use one of the extra alarms, the extra alarms will not work. (Just my thoughts on why others may have struggled but I don't know for sure.)
My mom happily reported that she has not forgotten her medications once since! It is setup to be the alarm and voice and she said that she can hear it throughout her apartment (a decent sized one bedroom). My only minor complaint is that I wish the compartments were just a little bigger. She is not able to fit all of her morning pills into a single compartment due to the large supplements her doctor has prescribed. This is not a huge issue since she just takes those first and never really needs to put them in. Actually I don't think that she uses the compartments at all but I am glad she has them in case she is gone for a longer stretch of the day that she can put them in there and take the alarm with her in her purse.
I am EXTREMELY pleased with this product - it was exactly what I was looking for.
| | Adequate by Jill E 3 Stars September 12, 2009 I purchased three timers for my mom. The Medcenter Talking Alarm Clock was my preferred choice for ease of use. It seemed sturdier, and was much easier to read with bigger display and buttons.
This one did track missed doses if that fills a need.
| | Great for those of us who have trouble remembering to take meds. by Suzyq (Grand Forks,ND USA) 4 Stars September 11, 2009 As a stroke servivor, I had a hard time remembering if I had taken certain medications at specific times. This container is exactly what I needed. My only complaint is, if you accidently push the alarm button while moving the container, you will end up re-programing it. The instructions are not very clear.
| | BEST EASY Med Reminder! by S. Parker (sunny so cal USA) 5 Stars July 11, 2009 I was REALLY leary about buying one of these - especially such a low priced model. This is SIMPLY THE BEST thing since sliced bread! I am a TT when it comes to gadgets and this was SO easy to program that I could do it all by little myself without having to ask my engineer husband for help;) I have to make sure that I take meds so they don't interfere with each other, food and supplements. This gadget makes keeping track of that SO easy. I just set it up once and I no longer have to think about what to take with what and when. It has kept perfect time so far and has never missed a beat. I even take the pillbox off and just put the timer in my pocket if I need to, which is SO convenient if I am out and about the ranch. The timer is just bulky enough to be pesky so I don't totally forget about the meds when I get back up to the house. The "missed pill" reminder is a godsend when I am too busy at work to remember if I actually took one or not! This wonderful gadget has given me peace of mind and the freedom of not having to worry about juggling my life with my meds. I would DEFINITELY buy this again!!
