EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Three-fold manual open ECLIPZE anti-UV umbrella blocks 99% of the UVA & UVB rays from passing through the canopy. Independently tested, the ECLIPZE has received the highest rated UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) 50+ given to a fabric. An ECLIPZE is perfect for: patio loungers, bench sitters, soccer moms, little league moms, parade watchers, dog walkers, golfers, boaters, outdoor concert goers, sightseers...anyone under the sun. Anytime there is a need for sun-shielding, UV protection is right at your fingertips. The 10" ECLIPZE easily fits in purses, fanny packs, briefcases, backpacks, suitcases, and glove compartments. Not only will an ECLIPZE protect skin from the damaging rays of the sun, but these heat-blocking shades are designed to keep the user up to 10 degrees cooler under the canopy. Because ECLIPZE anti-UV umbrellas are waterproof, they can be used for effective rain protection as well. Arriving fashionably late, the parasol has returned. |

| Great idea, flimsy construction by JLee (Chicago, IL USA) 3 Stars October 24, 2007 I recently visited Egypt for three weeks in August/September while temperatures were in the 115 degree range. Knowing I would be out in that heat all day every day, I purchased this umbrella and developed a love/hate relationship with it. It was truly wonderful as far as keeping the sun off of me (several of my fellow travelers had serious cases of sunstroke) and keeping me cooler. And it was very lightweight, so not tiresome to carry all day in the hot sun, which is a major concern.
I might add that I always wear a wide-brim hat and sunblock clothing in Egypt, but this umbrella still made a big difference in the sun.
The only problem was that the construction was so flimsy that I constantly fought with the umbrella. Egypt is not known for its high winds, but the slightest gust caused this umbrella to flip inside out. Most of the spokes were bent out of shape within the first few days -- and two spokes broke before the trip ended. I learned to hold the shaft with one hand and the edge of the canopy with the other.
When I left Egypt, I put the twisted remnants of what was once an umbrella in the trash. Before my next trip, I will look for a sun version of one of those double-layer umbrellas -- they are much, much heavier, more expensive, but at least one will still be recognizable as an umbrella after a bit of breeze.
So why am I giving it three stars? If you are in a hot climate with nothing more than a very light breeze, it's terrific. And I'm not kidding about my fellow travelers having heatstroke. I watched them drop out one by one, while I just kept going.
| | Great sun protection, compact size. by A. E. Fawcett (Austin, TX USA) 4 Stars October 14, 2007 I bought this for relief from the sun at a recent summer music festival. It did a great job of providing dense shade but was small enough to tote around all day. A good price. Would have given 5 stars if it had auto open and close.
