The Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer is an advanced, high-tech pedometer that--thanks to unique dual sensor technology--can be carried in your pocket or bag. I received the following statement from Omron's customer service dept after sending an email inquiring about how to shut off the pedometer:
Although it does state in the owner's manual that the unit shuts off, it actually does not. Operating this way, your HJ-720IT has been designed so that the battery life should be approximately 6 months.
I don't know what to think about a company who is not truthful about its product.

This little gadget is easy & fun to use. I've had other inexpensive pedometers in the past that were not that accurate & have gotten rid of them after using this one. This was recommended by a friend; he had great results with it. We often walk together & compare each other's steps. Although his stride is different than mine, the units are accurate because we've programmed them to coordinate to our individual needs. It's not hard to do. The other thing that makes this better than others is the fact that you can track your progress on the computer after easily setting up the software. I love it!

I don't know who raves about this defective unit but mine died after 8 weeks.
And their customer service is worse than their equipment.
10 days to answer one email

I love this pedometer. I bought mine in April (2009) and so far have walked 728 miles...WOW ! I've also lost 11 lbs doing nothing else but walking.
I also bought one for my sister, she lives across country, and each day we compare our steps. After she raved about it to my other sisters, they bought two more. Now all four of us tally our steps and report, each of us all wear it everyday and everywhere.
The downloading to the computer is really simple, and the graphs are great for motivating and keeping track of your steps.
Setting the options allows you to set your goals, I love to get the smiley faces when I reach and exceed my targets. I started with very conservative expectations, and when I could see I was routinely meeting and beating my goals, I adjusted them a little higher.
I like to see the number of miles I've walked and the aerobic minutes, my sisters love to see the calories and the fat grams they are burning, even while they are out shopping at the mall!
It's great for getting you moving, I've know when my sisters call, that while they are on the phone they are walking around the house just so they can clock more steps.
I would (and do) recommend this pedometer to everyone.
