Amazon.com Product Description
Not only does the HEM-790IT Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor utilize Omron's patented IntelliSense technology, but it also features the innovative Comfit Cuff. The ComFit Cuff is pre-formed for a quick and proper fit that is perfect for both medium and large-sized arms (nine to 17 inches). It's easy to apply the cuff to your arm without any assistance -- simply wrap the cuff around your arm and press start. In seconds your blood pressure and pulse are displayed on the large digital panel. Proven time and time again, Omron's IntelliSense technology ensures accurate, clinically-proven, and comfortable readings. And with a 90 memory recall with date and time stamp, you can track your blood pressure and pulse progress as you work towards a healthier lifestyle. The Omron HEM-790IT delivers accurate, clinically-proven blood pressure readings in the comfort of your own home. To take an accurate reading, first position the green marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm. Next, place your arm on a table so the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart. Omron Health Management Software Take your health to the next level with the included Omron Health Management Software. This PC software provides a blood pressure and pulse graph that lets you see how your values are trending over time. A morning/evening comparison graph tracks your morning and evening systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate. You can also view your most common values and identify variations by time frame with the frequency distribution graph. The software is simple to use, and it supports multiple users. With just one click, you can download data via the HEM-790IT's USB connection and see graphically displayed measurements on your computer screen in seconds. Instructions for Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitors There are several easy steps to taking your blood pressure with this blood pressure monitor. First of all, avoid eating, smoking, and exercising for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Remove tight-fitting clothing from your upper arm, and sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Slide your left arm through the cuff and position the cuff approximately 0.5-inches above the elbow. On the cuff you'll notice a green marker; position this marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm. Next, secure the cuff with the Velcro material. The cuff should make direct contact with your skin, but you should be able to easily fit your index finger between the cuff and your arm. Place your arm on a table so that the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart. Rest comfortably in a relaxed environment for at least 15 minutes prior to taking your blood pressure measurement. Once you feel relaxed, simply press the start button and remain still. The cuff will begin to inflate and numbers will appear on the display as the heart symbol flashes. When the measurement is complete, the cuff will deflate, and your blood pressure and pulse rate will display on the screen. If you need to stop the measurement at any time, simply press the on/off button and the monitor will immediately deflate. And remember, always consult your physician for specific information about your blood pressure. What is IntelliSense? The IntelliSense monitor inflates the cuff to the ideal level with each use -- you never have to make any adjustments to select an inflation level. This is especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders because their blood pressure is so likely to fluctuate. The biggest advantage of using the IntelliSense technology is a personalized inflation, every time, for maximum comfort. The Importance of Home Blood Pressure Monitoring Doctors, diabetes educators, physician assistants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals all recommend home blood pressure monitoring for various reasons. Home monitoring provides your healthcare professionals with better information to understand and manage your high blood pressure. Many types of hypertension can only be detected by monitoring your blood pressure at home, including: White-coat Hypertension: blood pressure reading is high in your doctor's office but lower at home Masked Hypertension: blood pressure reading is low in doctor's office but higher at home Morning Hypertension: blood pressure reading is higher in the morning Additionally, many factors can affect your blood pressure, including physical exertion, emotional fluctuations, medications, and stress. So having your blood pressure monitored at a pharmacy with an in-store device after you've been shopping or walking around might not provide you with the most accurate measurement. Monitoring your blood pressure at home allows you achieve a relaxed state more easily, and it gives you the flexibility to take your measurements at various times during the day. By keeping track of your home blood pressure readings, you can provide your healthcare professional with a log of your measurements over time. This can help them evaluate the effectiveness or need for medication. The included Omron Health Management Software provides a blood pressure and pulse graph that lets you see how your values are trending over time. View larger. Good BP Monitor; Terrible Tech Support for Software by Ray Miller 2 Stars
November 09, 2009
The Omron HEM-790IT is an easy to use BP monitor. It seems to be consistent and accurate. Make sure you set the date and time correctly on the machine and don't accidentally change it because once you download the data into its "Not Quite so" Advanced Management Software you are stuck with it. Yes there is NO WAY to edit your data once it is downloaded. This means you cannot delete errant data either. There is no end to the irritation that this causes me. That alone made my blood pressure shoot sky high. I was able go into their program and find the data base file "omron.mdb". I thought that I could edit the data directly myself but it was password protected. Don't expect any help from their tech support because you won't get any. I eventually cracked the password myself hence making the software satisfactorily usable. If I was not able to do that I would have returned the machine for a cheaper one, and not pay the extra price for their worthless software. I gave this a 2-star based on the software. I would give it a 4-star based on the BP minitor. It could use a slightly longer connetion hose.

Just what I wanted! by R. A. Bobzin 5 Stars

Its ease of use encourages me to use it every day - quick, simple, no hassle. And downloading the results every week or so creates a nice report for my doc. He's happy, I'm happy! I'd recommend this monitor to anyone needing to track their blood pressure.

Can the reading be trusted? by Dr. Blendo (Philadelphia, PA) 3 Stars

I bought the Omron HEM-790T after a check at a health fair showed my blood pressure was a bit higher than it should have been. I was a bit alarmed since I had had a routine physical a few months before that and my blood pressure was not high...nor have I ever been told that I had hypertension by my doctor. The nurses at the health fair were using the Omron unit similar to the one I bought so I thought this would be a good unit to purchase to use at home. As most purchasers have noted, the unit is easy to set up and use. I haven't installed the computer interface software so can't comment on that. My problem is that I visited my daughter a week ago who had just delivered a new baby and was hypertensive afterwards. She had an Omron unit as well (a model or two down from the one I bought). I tested myself on that unit a few times over two days and the numbers were significantly different (lower and in a normal range) from the ones on the unit I bought which are always higher and borderline hyptertensive. The manual says there will be some variation in the readings and that you should always monitor blood pressure in conjunction with your doctor. I have to say that the numbers I get on my unit are consistent...that is, they don't fluctuate a lot (in which case I would really question the device)...so what this means is that users of this device may want to bring it in to their doctor's office on a visit and compare the two readings....then (mentally) calibrate the Omron unit.

Accurate, works quite well for me. by W. Collier (Colorado, USA) 5 Stars

USE The cuff fits well, is easy enough to self-administer, the pulse count is accurate, and the controls are obvious. I also like the A/B user (so we use A for me and B is still random). It also comes with an AC adapter, unlike some other monitors that have battery-only. The display is large, easy to read, and the device itself is dead simple to use. ACCURACY I have used it daily (3 readings 1 minute apart) AM & PM for a while now, and had it cross checked several times by my CNA/Nursing-Student wife, and this device is within a few points every time. It also was dead-on when I took it to my Doctor's office to see how it read against his pulse-oximeter (for pulse) and manual cuff. I found out that my BP is 8-10/4-6 points higher in the doctor's office than at home -- this meter helped me show that I did have "white coat hypertension"! SOFTWARE The only drawback is the software, which uses a locked MS-Access database. Its ok if all you want is to print a report out for your doc, but I end up exporting the stuff and then reimporting it to a spreadsheet. I'd rather have full access to the data to generate my own reports. I cannot really fault them too much for the software, since they have to dumb it down for the lowest common denominator. So if the software is important, then for you I give the Software 3 stars by itself - not great but not all that bad for a piece of Windows software. (Note: if you know your way around Access, you can crack the database open and get at the things you want - I do , but then again I do that for a living and cannot recommend others do that). The hardware and normal use is what gets this 5 stars from me over-all. COMPARISON This one works like a charm, unlike the Omron HEM-650 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with APS (Advanced Positioning Sensor) I bought here at Amazon - FYI the wrist one was highly inaccurate, and basically useless - as I said in my review of it. And unlike a manual cuff and stethoscope, you can take your BP without any help at all. SUMMARY If you are looking for a good automatic BP cuff that's accurate and easy to use, with the ability to record and easily push the data to the computer, this is one device you should look into buying.

Accurate and easy to use by James E. Hauber (USA) 5 Stars

I've been using my 790IT for a month and it has been working perfectly. The cuff is very easy to use and the readings seem to be accurate. The PC interface is easy to use although the software is a little confusing. It is not very clear how you navigate from user profiles to looking at your data. It works fine once you understand it though. Being able to export to a csv. file is a real plus, making it easy to send your BP history off to the doctor.
