Two-part review: 1) about ultrasound in general, and 2) about this particular unit.
1) My results with ultrasound are mixed. Think it depends a lot on the nature and location of the discomfort. Got great results on muscle strain/spasm, minimal improvement for tendons and bony areas. It is an enormous advantage to have a partner - you just cannot do a good job on yourself, except maybe on your limbs.
2) This unit was the absolute lowest priced one I could find, and it's just fine. Sure, it's Chinese-generic, but they all are (unless you go into expensive professional units). This one arrived quickly, was packed well, came with a nice carry case and a surprisingly generous amount of the gel. Seems to be well-made, and if it only lasts a year or two, hey, it was still a bargain. No need to spend more.

As a medical practioner we have to aware that any therapeutic instrument will only be effective if used properly.....Ultrasound works by generating heat to facilitate healing or to relax spastic muscles. I bought this unit for personal use and I find this ultrasound to be most helpful for myalgia ( muscle pains ) this unit works very well by relaxing spastic muscles that is primarily responsible for the discomfort. I tried using it once and I felt significant relief on muscle pains the following day.....if you try to use it for tendinitis ( inflammation of tendons ) don't expect such a dramatic response........

I think this is a terrific machine--it's a great addition to any home health routine. It works for me on tendinitis
and minor arthritis better than any creams or gels. I really recommend trying it.

I purchased the ultrasound unit primarily for pain relief, but I find that it also has other therapeutic properties. For example, I found that the range of motion in my shoulder and right hip has increased significantly with regular use. This unit is easy to use and maintain. However, the plastic that is used to cover the on/off switch cracks and breaks after a period of time with use and I had to put a piece of tape over this switch.
The transducer cannot be used underwater which would make treating irregular areas such as the ankle, toes, hands,fingers and knees much easier and more effective.
However, even with this limitation, its effectiveness for relieving pain is considerable and I have found it to be virtually indispensable for allowing me to function pain free in activities that normally would cause me to suffer pain and discomfort.
I might mention the fact, that I have used this modality on friends, family and coworkers, many who were highly skeptical, and have been very pleased, if not surprised, at how is effective it has been for pain relief.
I highly recommend this unit, provided it is used correctly, because it must be stated that incorrect use could cause physiological damage. To that end, I believe that the instructions accompanying the unit could be better and more complete. That is my primary reason for four stars instead of a higher rating.

I've had it for almost a year. It works without problem. Using it reduces a chronic aching injury I have but does not eliminate the problem by itself. I combine it with exercise learned from physical therapists and I use a massage stick too called "The Stick" The Stick Original Body Stick. It takes everything to get rid of my pain but the ultrasound definitely helps. The unit has three power settings but does not have a depth setting.
