In the past, I've used generic straighteners from CVS, Sally's, Wal-Mart, etc. and only once have I splurged a little and purchased the MaxiGlide straightener (from those overly convincing infomercials! Gah).
That being said, the Babyliss Nano Titanium Ceramic Ionic Straightening Iron is by far the best straightener I have ever used. I fall short on having any decent comparisons though (as mentioned above). I am a veeery picky person, and I also have a tendency to read through numerous product reviews and compare prices before making a purchase (believe me on this one), so trust me-- this straightener is worth the money! (I paid $70 for it from Amazon.)
The flat iron heats up quickly, straightens well (I have minimally wavy, semi-straight hair to begin with-- don't know how it works on curly hair), and does NOT snag :) I use the 2nd lowest setting out of... 5 (340 degrees)? The only drawback I could find is the fact that it's preeetty easy to burn your hands/fingers on this straightener (because it gets so hot)! So be mindful of where your grip is. Anyway, that's not a deal breaker, considering the great results I get.
In comparison to the other straighteners that I've used, I find that the Babyliss flat iron doesn't damage my hair and give it that nasty, coarse, dead-hair look AS much, but I would definitely still recommend using some kind of heat-protection spray prior to straightening.
Lastly, I was a little disappointed when I received the straightener because it looked clunkier than I thought it would be. But books can't be judged by their covers applies here, I guess! Good straightener :) Hope this helps!

I LOVE this flat iron. I have previoulsy used the chi and this is 10 times better. I have difficuly frizzy curly hair and it would never stay straight after straightening it with the chi, now it stays straight, flat and frizz free and it takes me about half the time. Great product!!!!!!

I had a Babyliss straightener and it finally gave out. I replaced it with a cheaper Conair and after using the Conair once, I returned it because it did not get hot enough and was not worth the $25. I researched extensively and chose this one and I love it. I agree with all of the positive comments by other reviewers. It straightens easily and quickly and keeps my hair straight. My only two complaints are (as other people have noted): 1) the heat settings are preset and you cannot get in between 375 and 410; 2) there is a warning not to set it on any surface while hot; I wish they would have included a holder and carrier for it. I have been looking to buy one, but can't find what I want--in the meantime, I worry that I am going to burn my countertop. I do highly recommend this straightener.
