EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Worn like an everyday watch, SLEEPTRACKER is ideal for anyone who wants to wake up alert and ready to start the day, such as frequent travelers across time zones, business people looking for an extra edge, students with fluctuating schedules, or busy moms who need to wake up easily. SleepTraker PRO connects via USB to your computer, so you can download sleep data, make night-over-night comparisons, and keep track of other factors influencing your sleeping patterns with the included software. The Pro also offers three alarm choices: Vibrating, Ringing, or Both. Plus it features a sleek new metallic design. Why it Works The Key to Waking Up Refreshed Why is it so hard to wake up to a normal alarm clock? Because a normal alarm clock can't detect where you are in your sleep cycle -- a continuous cycle from deep sleep, to brief almost-awake moments, and back to deep sleep again. Occasionally, your alarm may catch you at an optimal, almost-awake moment and you wake up feeling refreshed, but usually you grope for the snooze button waking up tired and groggy. Wake at Your Perfect Time SLEEPTRACKER puts an end to that tired feeling. Once you set its alarm window, it monitors your body and continuously looks for your optimal waking times so it can wake you at just the right moment. Imagine not feeling tired in the morning and getting a few extra minutes out of your day. How does SLEEPTRACKER® work? SLEEPTRACKER continuously monitors signals from your body that indicate whether you are asleep or awake. Because you wear SLEEPTRACKER® on your wrist like a watch, its internal sensors can detect even the most subtle physical signals from your body. SLEEPTRACKER finds your best waking moments, so that waking up has never been easier. | Amazon.com Product Description Wake up feeling refreshed with the SleepTracker Pro Sleep Monitoring Watch. By tracking your body's natural sleep rhythms and sounding your alarm during optimal almost-awake moments, this watch helps you avoid being jarred from a deep slumber. And the watch also lets you download your sleep data to your computer so you can decide what lifestyle choices help you rest easier. .caption { font-family: Verdana, Helvetica neue, Arial, serif; font-size: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; } ul.indent { list-style: inside disc; text-indent: 20px; } table.callout { font-family: Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, serif; margin: 10px; width: 250; } td.callout { height: 100 percent; background: #9DC4D8 url(http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/callout-bg.png) repeat-x; border-left: 1px solid #999999; border-right: 1px solid #999999; padding: 10px; width: 250px; } ul.callout { list-style: inside disc; text-indent: -12px; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; } h5.callout { text-align: center; } The SleepTracker Pro offers sleek styling and an easy-to-read digital display. View larger. The SleepTracker identifies almost-awake moments that occur as your body cycles through the five stages of sleep. How SleepTracker Works When you wear the sleek, stylish SleepTracker on your wrist like a regular watch, internal sensors detect subtle physical signals from your body that indicate whether you are asleep or awake. This allows the SleepTracker to identify the almost-awake moments when it will be easiest to rouse you. During the night, your body goes through a series of sleep cycles comprised of five different stages. The average adult will experience four or five cycles each night, that include light stage-one sleep, slightly deeper stage-two sleep, heavy stage three, stage-four "Delta Sleep," which is when your body rebuilds itself, and REM sleep, a unique stage during which people dream and experience significant physiological changes. Pinpointing the moments within each cycle when you are naturally closest to waking makes this alarm system truly unique. Depending on your schedule, you can set an alarm window to last for up to 90 minutes. Since your alarm sounds at the moment during the preset alarm window when you are most alert, you will wake up refreshed instead of groggy. World travelers, business associates, busy parents, and students with early morning classes are particularly likely to enjoy the edge this gives them during the first hours of every day. Monitoring Your Sleep Data for a Healthier Lifestyle By using the mode button to select "data review," you can review a chronological list of the previous night's almost-awake moments. The unique "Data A" reading indicates the average time between your almost-awake moments. This reading can help you know how soundly you are sleeping. A longer Data A reading than normal may indicate a particularly restful sleep, while a shorter Data A reading and an increased number of almost-awake moments may indicate a restless night. Taking a look at what you did prior to bed on those restless evenings can help you better understand how your waking life affects your sleep patterns. Activities such as smoking, late-evening exercise, and eating a big, spicy meal can significantly impact your night's rest and your Data A reading. The Pro model offers an expanded 12-hour window of sleep data collection. Software included with the Pro model helps you keep track of these lifestyle factors. Simply use a USB connection to transfer sleep data from the SleepTracker watch to your computer, enter any factors you want to track, and the details of your nights become available for quick and easy comparative reviews. This helps you see the serious sleep benefits of small lifestyle adjustments. The Only Watch You Need The SleepTracker's innovative almost-awake technology can be set to wake you with a vibrating alarm, a ringing alarm, or both at the same time. Featuring a sporty, sophisticated look that helps it do double-duty as an everyday watch, the SleepTracker has an easy-to-read digital display with time, day, and date readouts. Also offering a GLO back-light for easy nighttime reference, and water-resistance, the SleepTracker is ready to take on your busy days and help you achieve restful nights. What's in the Box SleepTracker Pro Watch with installed CR 2032 battery, and SleepTracker software. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 3.0 based on 22 reviews)
| Not-so-sophisticated 1st generation technology by Elena (VA) 2 Stars April 30, 2009 I can't give this disappointing product a 1-star review because it did manage to wake me up, even with the weak vibrate/beep function. However, I found that it either woke me up right at the beginning of the window or right at the end, in which case I might as well use my cheaper, more reliable, and more comfortable alarm clock. The accompanying computer software was even more disappointing- I had lots of problems getting the watch to hook up and be recognized by the software, which did not seem to have a delete function for incorrectly-entered information. If you have sleeping problems, as I do, the best thing I can recommend is improving your sleep hygiene by scheduling yourself enough time to sleep and having enough self-discpline to get out of bed the first time your alarm goes off, and stepping outside or turning on some music to wake up. Definitely not worth the money, I was disappointed with this product the minute I saw the box. I just hope I get my refund soon.
| | Expensive... but works as advertised by Nicholas Winzenried 5 Stars April 19, 2009 I got this watch because I was curious about my sleeping patterns. I rarely awake refreshed, so I wondered how frequently I was almost awake through the night.
When I received the watch, the first thing that I was struck with was that it looked sturdy and of a higher quality than I had expected. I was impressed. After wearing it for the first night, I realized that it did not bother me at all, it went unnoticed through the night (however, I do wear a watch on the same arm all day) but regardless, the watch was comfortable.
I tend to wake up around the same time every day. Even though I always set my alarm clock, I am nearly always awake and up before it goes off. I didn't get this watch to wake me up, however, as advertised, the watch alarm went off, just after I awoke naturally, while I was just lazing for a few moments before rising. So, the watch did reliably recognize my sleep/wake cycle. I really liked the vibrating alarm feature because I am a little deaf in one ear for high frequencies. If my good ear was buried in the pillow, I would not hear the beep alarm at all.
The watch showed that I had a higher than average number of "almost awake" moments each night and this may be why I rarely feel refreshed. I have used the watch for only three nights in row, and each night I did have fewer almost awake moments. The manual explains that it is normal to have a varying number.
I have not yet hooked it up to my computer, so I cannot comment on that.
Bottom line, if you are thinking about this purchase, I would recommend it. I have a friend who wants to get one to monitor the differences in his sleep when he takes different medications.
This watch really could be worn for daily wear. It is as attractive as any of the plastic band sports watches; it is solid, and it has a great day/date/time display.
I have nothing negative to say at all about the Sleeptracker watch.
| | I was hopeful by James T. Duncan (S.F. CA) 1 Stars March 15, 2009 I was hopeful this would work. I agree wiith the premise; that where you wake in the sleep cycle matters, but this product doesn't deliver. After 2 weeks of not waking rested and on-time I'm returning it.
| | Works great. Feels like you wake up 5 minutes before it goes off! by N. D. Slater (Folsom, California) 5 Stars February 18, 2009 Throughout my entire life I have never been able to wake to my alarm, happily that is.
The first few nights of this watch.. were difficult. I have found, by using this watch, that I go into long periods of deep sleep. I simply set a larger window (60 minutes) for this watch to wake me up. I was thinking that maybe this would make me feel that I was loosing sleep every night, it was in fact...the opposite.
I was a bit skeptical at first. To my surprise this watch worked amazingly well. I highly recommend messing around with the awake window, and setting an alarm clock to go off at your required time (just in case) for the first few nights.
| | Feels like an untested, unfinished product by NoWireHangers (Sweden) 1 Stars February 09, 2009 I'm always very tired in the mornings and have trouble waking up. The Sleeptracker is supposed to find an "almost-awake" moment to wake you up, feeling refreshed. I really wakted it to work. It didn't.
The first night I tried it it didn't monitor my sleep at all and it didn't wake me up. The next night I tried it it woke me up but I certainly didn't feel refreshed. The following mornings it woke me up sometimes and sometimes not. The alarm is very quiet, according to the manifacturer because it doesn't need to be louder because it wakes you up when you're almost awake anyway. Problem is, if it doesn't find one of those "almost awake" moments, it rings at the time you set, no matter how deep you sleep. And it only rings once. If you miss it, you better have another alarm clock set or you won't wake up. I overslept twice in the first week I tried the Sleeptracker Pro. It also has a vibrating alarm but it's very weak.
Before going to bed you're supposed to set a "to bed" time. The easiest way to do this is to press the "Down" button when the watch is in "to bed" mode and it automatically sets the "to bed" time at thirty minutes later. This would be very easy if the "down" button had worked. Unfortunately it only works sometimes. I've had to press it up to ten times before it sets the time and it's just as frustrating every time. And getting pissed off about an alarm clock doesn't make it easier to fall asleep.
Another problem is the software that lets you track your sleep history. You connect the Sleeptracker with a USB cable to the computer and upload the data (the watch can only store one night's data for some unexplicable reason so you'll have to do this every day or lose data). Here you can see your almost awake moments and when the alarm went off. You can also click to see your best and worst sleep sessions, but there's no explanation of what makes a sleep session good or bad. I haven't noticed any pattern. Occasionally I get the error message "Sleeptracker not found". I emailed the support and asked about it and they told me there was some weird bug that gives that error message on Sundays and told me to uninstall and download the software from their website. Looks like they haven't been beta testing the software.
And this is the feeling I get for the product as a whole: that it hasn't been tested. It's hard to believe the Sleeptracker Pro is an improved version of the original Sleeptracker, because there are so many little flaws that would easily have been found and fixed if they had done any testing at all before marketing it. As it is, the Sleeptracker Pro feels like an unfinished product. If it was as sophisticated and effective as it claims, it would have been a great product, but it's not. In its current state it's really just a novelty item that might have been fun for a tenth of the price, but there's nothing to justify paying $180 for a product that is impractical to use and doesn't do what it's supposed to do. I really wanted this to work but I returned it to get a refund.
