Switched from old Swift II to LT - I like the LT. Here's why... by Joe Schmoe reviewer 5 Stars
November 30, 2009
Short story: feels lighter, is MUCH quieter than the Swift II. Nose pillows feel different, but not uncomfortable. Center, over-the-head hose position is MUCH better for a side-sleeper. Long story: My old Swift II was getting pretty stretched out. I got a new one about a year ago, but during a mid-night fight with it, I ripped it apart! So I had to use the old one again and, for some reason, it was just more comfortable. But the headbands don't last forever and I had a decision to make. Another II or try the LT. I went with the LT. (Note: for some reason the price fluctuates. I got hosed when it jumped a few bucks. it's now back down to the original price. Different vendors, I presume.) I used the LT for one night so far, so these are first impressions. I will update in a week or so. The head bands are a little different from the II, so I tried it on in the afternoon so I wouldn't have to figure it out in the dark. The fit definitely feels lighter. But the big difference is in the nose-pillow apparatus. The fit is different and, of course, felt awkward at first. (I believe my nose touches some part of it and a red line across my nose this morning confirmed that. BTW, I have an average size nose.) I thought it might fall off during the night (the LT, not my nose), but it did not. It was not uncomfortable, though, and I apparently got used to it because I went to sleep easily. The LT is MUCH quieter than the Swift II. The Swift II used to drive me nuts. The LT is almost silent. Big difference. The wife will probably not be able to tell if I have it on based on the CPAP itself because the whooshing sound is gone. She'll have to assume it's on based on the absence of my house-shaking snore. Either way, it's one less thing either of us has to endure in the interest of my health. The other big difference is the hose position. It comes out of the FRONT of the apparatus and can be clipped to the middle of the over-head band. That means the hose goes in front of your face and up over your head. I thought that would be awkward, too, but it is not only not awkward, it is a much better position for me as a "side sleeper." I was able to shift from one side to another without dealing with the hose. Bottom line (and, again, I will update this in a week or so), I find it superior to the Swift II and recommend it. I think Swift II users will like it. And I don't want to sound preachy, but if you have apnea and have not been using your CPAP because of the noise or the hose, you should try the LT. And if that doesn't work, keep trying until you find a mask you can live with.

healthcare reform? by C. Wilkens (Charlotte, NC) 4 Stars

I am extremely happy with this LT mask...it works great. What I am puzzled about is the fact that several ResMed providers in the field actually told me I was breaking the law for attempting to buy this consumable item without having a prescription. My local guy priced it at over $300 while I bought it online for closer to $50. But, the local guy said he would file a healthcare claim on my behalf. Let's see...is that service worth the $250 difference? Nope. We need to incorporate some basic supply and demand rules into healthcare. If done so properly the some of the cost problems will take care of themselves. BTW, I do have a prescription for the ResMed device. Apparently I now need another trip to the doctor and an additional prescription for the parts to keep it working properly. What a scam.

Good but not the best by Alfred R. Burns Jr. (GA) 4 Stars

This is a good product but I like Resmed Swift 2 a lot better. I've been using it for as long as it has been on the market.

I have been using the Swift II Mask with Headgear for three years, this new model Swift LT has a better design than the old one.

It's The Best by Elizabeth R. Grant (Cartersville, GA) 5 Stars

I have used a BiPap for almost 4 years. Started with an over the nose mask. After a few months of that I order myself a Mirage Swift II. What an improvement! Used that mask for over 3 years and it is still like new. I saw the picture of the new Swift LT and thought it might be an improvement. Whow! what an improvement. So much quieter and with the air hose coming out of the bottom it is no longer in the way for side sleeping and the air coming out is not as intrusive as it is with the Swift II. Really don't know how they could make it any better. A note to the reviewer who gave the LT a 1* review, perhaps the air on your CPap is not set high enough. I noticed when I switched from the over the nose mask to the nasal mask I needed a little more air pressure.
