What is CPREzy? A device to aid the effectiveness and consistency of chest compressions in training AND during cardiac arrest. Why is effective CPR important? Brain damage can start occurring within 3-4 mins of cardiac arrest. Effective CPR should begin within the first 60 seconds to maximize patient survival. Chances of survival reduce by 10% for every minute of inactivity. Many heart attacks each year,70% happen out of hospital. Issues in Performing good CPR: Knowing, remembering and being able to apply and maintain the correct compression rate. Knowing and being able to apply the correct pressure; fractured rib or punctured lung may be caused by excessive pressure, (45% can suffer internal injury) or worse still – CPR may not be effective due to insufficient pressure. Fatigue; CPR performance can decline by as much as 80% in the first minute due to rescuer fatigue– often without the rescuer knowing (Ochoa FJ. et al, Resuscitation 1998).
