This leak detector seemed to work fine at first. Ten months after I put it in place, I tested it with some water and... nothing. Put in a new battery, and still nothing. Not at all good for a warning device. Also, the alarm volume is acceptable, but not nearly as loud as a smoke detector. I bought a "leak frog" at the same time I got this unit, and the leak frog is still working.

I installed these alarms under every sink after major renovations in our house, and the kitchen faucet turned out to be faulty and leaked about a week after the work was done. This alarm alerted us every time there was water present at the bottom of the cabinet.
The only drawback i found was that the battery cover does not close too well and snaps off easily, but since the alarm is supposed to just stay in one place most of the time - i figured it's not a major issue.

These water leak alarms are not loud enough to get your attention unless you are in the same room with them. I would not recommend them.

I have three of these, one for my reef aquarium, another for the pool equipment room, and another by the water heater. It has already allowed me to respond to flooding before any damage was done. On rare occassion the protein skimmer in my aquarium cabinet overflows, and the Zircon Water Detector is on the floor of the cabinet and detects the moisture right away. I can hear the piercing alarm from the next room with the cabinet door closed and also with the room door closed. It sounds somewhat like a smoke detector. It is very sensitive because the alarm will continue until the contacts are completely dry (even if you lift it off the surface, the alarm may continue until you wipe it with a towel and allow the metal to fully dry). I've never had a false alarm so far, which is important. The alarm has only sounded when wet. The batteries seem to last a long time, haven't had to change any yet.
