After some local break-ins I started looking for an alarm system. I went with this system because it was what I wanted, self monitering, expandable, and easy set up.
To me it looks as good of quality as expensive monitered systems, and as far as color I dont care if its pink with purple polkadots as long as it works, and it does. It doesnt take long to set up and with a little playing around with the different zones you can quickly get a feel for how easy it is to use. Set the sensors to certain zones for their particular use, such as instant on for garage, or outer doors for home mode, or away mode, its not hard to configure. If you dont want someone to have a delay time to smash the unit just set your exterior doors for an instant on zone on all modes, the alarm will make a burglar run off pretty quick in my opinion. I hated leaving my home unatended, especially when you see someone you dont know walking down your street and they saw you leave, now if my house is hit, I will get a call and I will call my trusted next door neighbors. And with my family here while I am away the panic buttons give me a better peace of mind knowing there is a little something extra to help protect them.

It works!
lots of bells and whistles.
The alarm literally kills your ears when it goes off, it would be difficult to remain in the room with it going off, I do agree with the reviewer that said you need to hide the box though, cause all you would have to do is smash the thing, and that alarm would stop..
The only negative... the instructions were a little vague... be sure you are following the instructions for the particular control panel you are installing. They look very similar... but you figure it out quickly.
I would also suggest that you NOT install the control boxes to the wall until you have the system up and running, just lay 'em on the floor and then mount them after testing the stystem.
Also , no need to use templates, just use the double sided tape (included) and then used your back panel as a drill guide. I ended up moving mine several times and eventually thought it would be better to wait until everything checked out.

this thing is super easy to get with little or no knowledge of electronics and is working for me so far.....but two things
1. I put the battery in the zone unit/controller and tried to test sensors out without closing it back up- don't do this. there is a switch inside which fires off the alarm immediately. I have a degree in the field and found the switch pretty quick be I didn't find any mention in the manual-ah ha for me but for others...not sure
2. the motion detector that came with the unit was preprogrammed but extra's are not-that is in the manual -but here again some could miss this because the literature say's "programmed for you", but not the extra one's. they still have to be " taught " to the system. I caught it but again for others-not sure.
overall good system so far and a very loud alarm!

I bought and installed this system, it is easy to install and program, but the features are limited and actually deceiving. I bought the SC1000 system and a temperature alarm and a water alarm. Well, you can do that and have the dialer connect to all of it, but you will get only one type of notification. In other words, you can record only one message. So, if a door is opened you get notification. If the temperature falls too low, you get the same notification. If my water line bursts, same notice. So, I have installed and armed the security system, the water and temp alarms are headed back to Amazon. Not sure how long I will use the system due to the limitations. It would seem overly simple for Skylink to include features for multiple notification types especially with the prevalence of caller ID.
