Huge disappointment over the 810 by videobruce (Buffalo NY) 2 Stars

Pros; 1. bright LCD display (but see below), 2. 2.7 GHz bandwidth (though noise floor rises sharply above 2 GHz.) 3. Smaller and lighter than the 810, 4. Optional battery operation (expensive option that has to be done at time of purchase), 5. More flexible setup (adjustments) and memory storage, 6. Low power consumption (I don't see a reason for the fan at all). Cons; 1. Confusing control layout, 2. Almost impossible to find the 'enter' the first time because of size and small label, 3. Manual needs updating, 4. POOR SENSISITIVY, even compared to 810 (the 810 was bad enough). My 10 year old Signal Level Meter with limited Spectrum Analyzer capability far exceed this, 5. NO DOCUMENTATION FOR THE SOFTWARE and the software is NOT included (but can be downloaded fron their site), 6. Quirky software and outdated serial port interface. Same went for the 810. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't depending on if you have the scope running BEFORE you boot the PC, 7. Unit is in a standby mode unless you completely power it off by the rear power switch. I see no reason for this, 8. RBW and VBW control are two layers deep. No front panel decicated buttons for direct access, 9. MANY ISSUES WITH THE MARKERS. It appears that the marker memory gets corrupted and markers appers outside the range of the span when you change span frequencies, 10. No easy and fast way to move the marker to another frequency. Spinning the knob is terribly slow and frequency entry is guesswork, 11. NO SUPPORT ON INSTEK'S WEBSITE. All you can do is e-mail or call them, 12. Non adjustable backlight. Only on or off, 13. Eight 'bumpers' that extend out too far from the case making sliding into into a small space difficult. They can be removed and rubber feet added to replace the rear bottom two 'bumpers'.
