Like nearly everything we buy these days, this product is made in China. But it does have a real glass lens that appears to be clear and bright, with no obvious distortion. Unlike many I've seen, the handle is sturdy and comfortable and the whole unit seems to be fairly solid, not like some that seem like the lens will drop out at the first bump. It also has a fairly generous focal range, so it isn't so particular about holding it at an exact distance.
I think the Bausch and Lomb is probably much better optically, but is is also much more expensive. This one will be perfectly adequate and satisfactory for most uses. Shipping was fairly steep for such a small thing, and packaging wasn't overdone, so be sure you check that before ordering.
