This is the second chopper I have purchased. this particular one was a gift. My friend said her husband has chopped everything he can get his hands on. It is an amazing product and I would be lost without mine. It saves work and does such a neat job on the potatoes or celery or onions or what ever you are chopping.

BUY IT NOW - prefer it to the Progressive Intl. chopper by Lourdes (Madrid, Spain)

This thing is so fantastic I make excuses to use it. For years I have wanted something to make Mexican salsa with. Tomatoes, onions, and jalapeños for a big bowl used to take me 40 minutes to chop! (OK, so I'm not that good in the kitchen). Now I've got a bucket of salsa in five minutes, and it's fun. It's even fun to clean! Along with a cat, it is one of the things I have resolved never to live without again. If it broke, I wouldn't even care--I'd just buy another one. The one thing I would kill for is a slicing insert. Why didn't they make this? Or did they? Please Vidalia, THIS IS A CRI DE COEUR! The Progressive International Chopper comes with a slicing insert, and I even think it's manufactured by the same people (the Vidalia has the word "Progressive" in slightly raised lettering on it). However, I don't like the Progressive as much, for persnickety reasons. You have to put the lid (the thing that slams down on the onion) on "just so," whereas with the Vidalia somehow you just slap it on and away you go. The Progessive comes with a handy plastic case to put the whole thing in, but it is so precise that, again, you have to fit everything in just so. Psychologically it seems too tight and compressed ... I need wiggle room. I throw my Vidalia back in the box, toss it on the top shelf, and I'm done. Objectively the Progressive chops and dices just as well, once you've hooked the lid into place and pulled it out of its tight little box. And it has the slicer attachment for mushrooms, etc. If you are not bothered by the same crazy stuff as I am, then buy the Progressive. Personally, I am sticking with the Vidalia, which gives me enormous pleasure, and in the meantime I'll pray that Vidalia starts making other inserts.

I have tried it with all veggies. Trust me the amount of pre preparation required in cutting them into slices and amount of force required to push the lever down.,makes it useless......I might as well dice them myself!

I have purchased it years ago. Since day one, I have used it every single day. I chop every vegetable with it, hard or soft. So durable, easy to clean, fast to do the job. I bought it as gifts when I traveled and people just loved it. This is one item I can't live without, and if anything should happen to it, I will buy another immediately. I recommend it. The only thing I would say is that it comes with an additional disc for smaller cubes, and I have never found the need for it, I used it once but it wasn't as good as the bigger squares.

I have a small hot dog cart business. In the past I had to spend precious time in the kitchen chopping onion before I could leave for my lunch location. Now, I have cut that time down dramatically! When I have big catering jobs, this device saves me tons of time. Literally, it takes more time cutting the onions in half and peeling them than it does to chop them. I like the fact that my Vidalla Chopper came with the extra dicing blade which is perfect for my hot-dog onions. The standard blade is about 3/8 of an inch which is perfect for french fries. For under twenty bucks it is a good deal.
