| AlphaTrak Blood Glucose Monitoring System Meter by T.C. (California) 5 Stars October 30, 2009 This is a great product when used properly. I found that not even my vet's office tech was doing it correctly. If you follow the directions exactly, you only need a minute drop of blood - the size of a pinhead - to obtain an accurate reading. And since it's calibrated for dogs and cats specifically you don't need to calculate any figures to convert the numbers. The only negative is the cost of the strips - they are about a dollar apiece no matter where you buy them, and of course, can only be used once. But if you're trying to stabilize a cat & need multiple readings taken, it's still cheaper than an all-day visit at the vets, plus you have the option of being able to take a reading anytime you are concerned about your cat's (or dog's)blood sugar levels.
| | Good meter for dogs by love4schnauzer (MI, USA) 5 Stars October 17, 2009 I switched to this meter from a human meter.
-> Alpha Trak is more accurate for my dog then the human meter.
-> Alpha Trak does not have an alarm.
-> Alpha Trak is harder to navigate then the human meter.
-> Alpha Trak gives 2 minutes to get blood sample.
(The human meter only gave one minute to get the blood sample. That was not always enough time to get the sample. Also the human meter started as soon as the strip was entered where as the Alpha Trak you insert the strip and then when you are ready you turn it on.)
| | Brings Peace Of Mind by TeeTeeAZ (Chandler, AZ United States) 5 Stars November 28, 2007 My dog has been diabetic for about 5 years. Whenever she'd get sick, we'd have trouble keeping her diabetes regulated which meant several (expensive) trips to the vet. Now, with the blood glucose monitor, I can monitor here at home, get over the phone advice from my vet, and know that my dog's insulin needs are being met. Prior, it was a guessing game, one filled with anxiety. As the saying goes, knowledge is power, and this device has left me and my family feeling like we can now help her to the fullest extent with her diabetes. With that comes the incredible peace of mind of knowing that you're treating her appropriately. Fabulous product!
| | AlphaTrak Glucose Monitor for Dogs & Cats by Susan C. Eagle (Easton, PA) 5 Stars November 04, 2007 I have been using this meter for just over 1 week for my dog who was recently diagnosed with diabetes It has been a life saver because on 2 occasions her glucose has been very low, without the meter I would have given her the full dose of insulin and possible made her blood sugar go even lower just he peace of mind is worth the money spent the only downfall is that the test strips are a little pricy through my vet but I have found them online cheaper
