Product Description
Strawberries & Cream Wax Plant - Hoya carnosa Hoya carnosa is one of 100 species of Hoya that are native to Eastern Asia and Australia. The this easy to grow houseplant Hoya carnosa was named for Thomas Hoym, gardener to the Duke of Northumberland at the end of the 18th century. Blooming Time: Summer: Clusters of attractive, star shaped, pink-white blossoms are produced in summer. The delicate flowers appear to be made of porcelain and are truly unique. Culture: Hoya carnosa does best in at least 4 hours of bright indirect or curtain-filtered sunlight. Night temperatures of 60 to 65 degrees and day temperatures of 70 degrees or higher are optimal. Water freely during flowering but allow the soil to become almost dry between waterings when the plants are not rapidly growing. Fertilize every 2 months in spring and summer. Do not remove the leafless spurs or stubs, on which new flowers appear every year. Propagation: Hoya carnosa can be propagated at anytime by air layering or by stem cuttings. A portion of the stem including one or more pairs of leaves will quickly produce roots in water or damp sand.

Not Strawberry And Cream by M. Hanks (Ohio, USA) 3 Stars
October 05, 2009
If you want the strawberry and cream look do not buy this plant. I love the greenery and it worked out well for my wedding centerpieces. I wanted the red and white look to match my wedding colors but after a year of growing the plant I have never seen it bloom. The greenery is very nice and I simply surrounded it with cut flowers and colored stones to make up for the lack of color.

The Hoya offered for sale by Hirt's is a choice variety that isn't easy to find, let alone at such a reasonable price. It (along with a dwarf banana plant, rated separately) arrived in very good condition just 3 days after placing the order, an admirable feat. The Hoya arrived in excellent condition. After reading the other reviews, I quickly noted that the plant was actually several well-rooted plants. Considering that this is a variety that has very attractive variegated leaves, I decided to separate the 6 plants and repot individually with the intention of giving most of the others away as gifts after getting established. At little more than $1 per plant this is an extremely good value. However, one might consider that as Hoyas are noted to flower better and faster when root-bound, it's possible that it would do well as multiple plants in a single pot. While I would recommend Hirt's Gardens in general, I would most particularly recommend this selection. Additional comment (10/26/09): Since writing this product review I've done quite a bit of searching for more information on this particular variety. Several posts claim that this is just a made-up name for a well-known cultivar, Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Queen'. Further searching reveals that 'Krimson Queen' itself comes in at least two forms: white or pink-rose flowers. Moreover both are different cultivars of what is most properly named Hoya carnosa rubra. The only point is that the plant sold here as 'Strawberries and Cream' isn't quite as rare as I first thought. However, my rating remains at 5 stars as this is a desirable plant regardless what you call it and it is still a very good value.

Internet plants, how do they grow? by Corall Kelp (Pacific Northwest) 5 Stars
May 05, 2009
Well, first let me start with how well Hirts Nursery did in shipping my 3 plants. I ordered a Strawberries & Cream Wax plant, one Yellow Crown of Thorn plant and one Yellow Xmas Cactus plant. They all came together in one box with an instant heat pak. And packed so that the dirt in their pots would not fall out. They had to travel across the country to the Pacific Northwest in February. Excellent job Hirts! All three were what I expected. I did not find any pest on them and kept them away from other plants for a few weeks just in case. And I did not expect any blooms. Hopefully that will come later. They are still in the same pots but ALL have new growth waiting to be repotted, as we are into May. Yes, I would order from Hirts again. Thank you Amazon and Hirts for an excellent experience in ordering online for plants! Linda B. Washington*
