EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Sensitive Plant is an easy to grow house plant that snaps it's leaves shut when touched! You will not believe this plant. It acts more like an animal than a plant. Plus it has beautiful, pink, silky flowers. Attractive, bright green leaves are outlined by burgundy borders. Grow on a bright window in a 4" pot. Grows 6-12 inches tall.
Proper name: Mimosa pudica |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 3.0 based on 5 reviews)
| excellent by Colleen Sawyer (Ohio, USA) 5 Stars September 25, 2009 I bought this product because they looked easy to grow, and pretty fun to play with once they were grown. I planted around 10 seeds, and only two really made it. Fine with me, because germination rates are different with everything. They have both grown over the course of summer, and now the one is two feet tall and the other one is about a foot. They are excellent. Hirts has never let me down, and i have spent over 100$ on them.
| | Not sure what to tell you guys by Sherrie Liebenthal (WI) 5 Stars June 26, 2009 I have a plant still growing from last year, i planted these seeds again this year since I had so many left over and they poped up. I live in WI, and grew them on my window sill, nothing special water every day, when they got a little bigger I set them outside and they seem to want full sun when they are matureing and seem to want shaded light when they hit about 7 inches tall
| | If you hate customer service... by Teddeman (Baltimore, MD) 1 Stars April 08, 2009 ...Hirt's is the vendor for you. Avoid this seller unless you are seeking terrible, non-responsive customer service and unacceptable product quality. Many seeds I ordered never sprouted. One plant arrived near death, another was omitted from the order altogether.
In spite of over half a dozen emails to customer service, no one has ever responded. Plants spouted (one of the few that did).
| | The Good and the Bad by Matthew Crawford (United States) 3 Stars September 23, 2008 All the seeds that I planted have sprouted however within the first 2 weeks they all died before any real leaves started to grow.
I have looked very carefully for directions on the internet on how to grow these and I'm following every guideline and even tried not following the guidelines to grow these and still no luck.
Probably won't bother with these again since they don't live longer than 2 weeks no matter what I try to keep them alive.
| | didn't grow by Alli Miller 1 Stars September 02, 2008 I got these for my daughter and I to plant together so that they would be ready by the time her birthday came, so that we could give them as party favors. We were so excited to plant them and only ONE sprouted, and then died. We have several plants at home so it's not as though we can't grow anything. We must have gotten a bad batch of seeds....My daughter is very disappointed.

| Amazing Sensitive Plant - Leaves Move - Mimosa pudica by Hirt's Gardens
Mimosa pudica, sensitive plant. Note the typical flowering head with stamens dominating as the attractive component of the flowers. In this family the leaves and leaflets are often capable of movement due to changes in the water pressure of the swollen leaf and leaflet bases (pulvini). The leaves assume a folded or "sleeping" posture at the end of the day that is triggered by a decrease in light level. However, the sensitive plant is also capable of rapid movement in response to touch or...

| Cider Gum Eucalyptus Tree Herb 20 Seeds - Eucalyptus gunnii by Hirt's Gardens
Eucalyptus is an enormous and fascinating genus. It comprises over 700 species, and accounts for more than two-thirds of Australia's vegetation. It is unfortunate that they are frequently regarded as not being reliably hardy outside of the subtropics, because it discourages people from planting them in cooler areas. There are many reasons to plant a eucalyptus--to begin with, they help to control aphids and other insects, most of them will grow rapidly, even in poor soil (12' per year is not...
