Synopsis:  The Predators, the feared alien game hunters, have returned to Earth to engage in a coming of age ritual. Throughout history earth has been the proving ground of the Predators in their passage to become 'men'. The ritual involves the 'teenage' Predators hunting down a hive of Alien warriors the objective being to successfully defeat them and claim the skulls as its trophies and thus attain adulthood. This however does not always go according to plan, as in one hunting session in 13th century South America where the easily aggravated Aliens defeat the Predators, leading to the destruction of the both species and the Aztec people who worshipped the Predators as Gods. In the early 21st century on Earth billionaire industrialist Charles Bishop Weyland (Lance Henriksen) discovers a pyramid, buried thousands of feet under the ice of Antarctica, with his satellites. Knowing that he has discovered something important, Weyland organises a team, led by Lex Woods (Sanaa Lathan), and goes to the Antarctic to investigate the pyramid. They do not realise that the Predators have reawakened the enslaved Queen Alien and she has begun production of new eggs and Alien larvae. The battle stage is set, for Aliens and Predators, with the humans caught in the middle, as prey to both.

I just want to start this off with saying, I LOVE the original Alien movies. So I was amped about this movie and really wanted to like it. I'm pretty disappointed by this movie. The story is very thin/weak and the characters are dumb. When I say dumb I'm talking about the cheap horror movie dumb where the person running from the monster decides to run into the woods, in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere without a flashlight. So they find an unknown heat signature and want to check it out, thats fair. BUT when they see the hole that was dug overnight, and see that it blasted through one of the near by buildings that would be a red flag to me. If you look at the path the tunnel makes through the ground and through the building it means either the tunnel was dug from under ground and went up through the buildings, or it had to come from above the buildings (space). That would be a HUGE red flag, and I think I would cancel the whole trip right then and there. Either that or set up some remote surveillance type stuff and go home. But instead they go in looking for digging equipment. You would think once they got down to the bottom of the hole and saw no equipment and no team of people they would want to turn around. Nope, lets go in! Apart from that, the character development is very poor. Dialog poor. Action was shot at too tight, making it unintelligible. The CG was cheap and almost amateur looking. The lighting in the CG didn't match the lighting of the scene so whenever the movie would cut over to CG it really jumped out at you saying "hey this is cg". Also there is a scene where the helicopter is flying over the ocean in daylight and you can see a pattern in the waves of the water. Very cheap CG. I could go on and on but I'll stop here.

Silly script, still great fun. by Alicia Philipp (Lilburn, GA United States) 4 Stars

Someone had to write a plausible scenario to corral humans, Predators and Aliens into this franchais lifeboat, if the movie is going to get made. The resulting picture is a combination of a mediocre to poor screenplay, a decent cast, and very good production value. Genre fans and Alien fans will not be dissapointed with AVP's special effects, action sequences, and thrills. I particularly like AVP's art direction. The abandoned whaling station and the Predator proving ground pyramid are both interesting places in which to enjoy the mayhem. The effects team for AVP also, in my opinion, picked all the right places to use CG, puppets, or guys in costume. Woodruff and his team should be proud of how seamless the those transitions happen in the picture. The Blu-ray quality further helps AVP's strengths. Finally, an implausible set-up, silly and sometimes embarrassing story concepts are not enough to keep me from really liking AVP. I'm not at all afraid to admit that I'm there to see the fight. The final battle featuring an escaped Queen alien, has an exciting and cool "Godzilla versus" feel. AVP's Director/writer, Paul W.S. Anderson's latest work was on "Pandorum." "Pandorum" has a pretty solid script, but is just not as much fun as AVP.

Lousy Story, Lousy Characters, Lousy action, and Lousy, Lousy fan Service by Untitled (nowhere) 2 Stars

Being an Alien and Predator fan (no other creature in sci-fi is cooler than these two!), you might think I watched this because I wanted to look like an old school fan or some elitist nerd who complains for nothing. Quite the opposite. I thought that this movie would be premium fan service, delivering what Transformers 2 delivered: tons and tons of the titular creatures we fans know and love (or in Transformers case, robots). AVP did not feature any good fan service, instead delivering a laughably bad attempt to create fight scenes (and the creatures are hardly envisioned well either) , characters and a plot worth a damn. Paul WS Anderson isn't a horrible director, he did a much better job at making sure you could actually see something (The Brothers Strause should take a class from him). But other than that, there's really nothing that's worth even watching. Sure, the PG-13 rating is not his fault, but the lack of gore is pretty twofold to everything else. The plot is a retread piece of junk, dealing with some object, a generic plot that seems to surface in every third rate science fiction movie that probably revolves around Hollywood every year. The cardboard characters have no real motives, no real personality, and extremely boring to work with. The main character's motives are phony, and really is just a rip off of Ripley. She's nothing as charismatic or admirable as her, and nowhere near as memorable. The other characters? We don't know anything about them. With no character study or plot, there's nothing to grab onto while waiting for the creatures to show up. But as Fan service? Absolutely, absolutely awful. There is not enough of the two creatures, and the creatures themselves don't even look cool. Do you want to know how bad it is? For christ sakes, they look like they are made with stop motion! The fight scenes are stupid, and they don't make the beasts look asbolutely amazing to watch . It's a sin to see that the concept of two of the creatures fighting be reduced to such nonsense. This series, for the most part, failed to deliver on giving the fan what I want. What a waste. The Concept is nice, but it fails on pretty much every level to make an interesting movie. Seriously, you don't get much of anything, and don't even think about seeing it's going to be popcorn movie action at it's best. It's a slap in the face to all the fans of the series, for sure. D+

Anything good about the movie just 2 words Lance Henriksen that's about it 3/10 part 2 is on the AVP DVD 2 pack  by J. Paul (hell MI usa) 1 Stars

Back in the late 80's early 90's there was a comic book series called Alien vs Predator then in 1993 AVP a beat em up was released on the SNES & Capcom made an even better beat em up there was a Atari Jaguar game it was an FPS though. But AVP how could you go wrong Alien, Aliens & Alien 3 great movies Predator 1&2 fun movies. Hey I saw it was going to be on TV once thought hey Freddy vs Jason was decent 2 of SCI FI's most vicious creatures what could go wrong you want to know how you go wrong PG13 rating Predator 1 had so much blood & gore the Predator skinned people he took there spine for a trophy. Predator 2 was extremely gory [...] to the walls gory Predator skinned a lot of people the when he took the Jamacian gang leaders head it did a close up of the severed head blood dripping down the spine & his face was like oh my [...] has been [...] The entire Alien Quadrilogy has it's fair share of gore famous chestburster scene Alien 1 for example. BTW I ment to rate it 2 stars not 1 sorry guys.
