CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 50 reviews)
| Always Liked Freddie by Book Scottie (Wisconsin) 5 Stars November 05, 2009 Perhaps I am weird but I always liked Freddie Mercury and I always liked opera. Two opposing styles you say? Why not as they remain happily tucked in my person to this day. This is how I happened to get both my loves in one cd. I was mindlessly romping through YouTube one day listening to old favorites which happened to include Queen. Somewhere in there I tripped across Barcelona and I was hooked. Something about the sweeping music and the delightful play of Freddie's unusual voice with Monsterat's beautiful soprano was so uplifting. If you enjoy both these musical expressions, opera and the grit of Mercury's iconic voice, then this cd is worth the purchase. Barcelona is such fun but the other selections are rich, filled with beauty and key changes to give you goose bumps! I am such a devoted fan of this cd that I take it with me on my drive to work. It makes the commute less boring and I arrive at work humming.
| | A great album for those who want to expand their musical selection to include opera by Joseph M. Aspinall (Budd Lake, NJ) 5 Stars August 31, 2009 I have always loved Freddie Mercury, and heard that he his musical background was based on opera, but have never found myself able to appreciate most of the opera genre. I believe that is changing, after listening to this album. Like a good novel, or even a good movie, which you might have to read or watch several times before you are able to appreciate its brilliance, I had to listen to this album several times before I could appreciate it. While I have known of Freddie's brilliance for some time, this is the first time I have ever even heard of Montserrat Caballe (yes, I live in cave and have little to no contact with the civilized world). I immediately fell in love with Montserrat Caballe, and with her powerful, dramatic, and beautiful voice. I have never purchased an opera album before, or even thought of going to the opera, but after listening to Montserrat Cabablle, I am ready to take the next step and buy one of her albums and attend one of her concerts!
| | Brain-Meltingly Beautiful! by David C. Roberson (Birmingham, Alabama) 5 Stars July 20, 2009 When I described this amazing album to my guy friends, they accused me of being a homosexual. Now they all listen to it! They pass it off to girls as a sign of their sensitivity! What d-bags, am I right?
Regardless, this is a truly breath-taking installment, an oft-forgotten cliff note in the vast Mercury catalog--the injustice of this fact is only over-shadowed by the sheer unmitigated brilliance of Caballe and Mercury's unquestioned chemistry. This is a MUST hear album for anyone with -real- taste!
| | Found a treasure after 17 years... by Mr. Stanley M. Schmidt (Rockford, IL) 5 Stars June 19, 2009 I discovered this recording this year and I guess 17 years after release is better than never. This is an incredible, and I mean incredible recording by two of the most talented performers of the 21st century. The chemistry between Montserrat and Freddie is not only obvious, but it is perilous and shows clearly in their performance. This is a must have for any music fan.
I still get misty-eyed whenever I hear Freddie and just can't help but think what an incredible loss the music world suffered when he left us in 1991. Recently he was named in the top 100 vocalists of all time at number 18, by Rolling Stone. I'm glad they recognize his extraordinary talent and his pioneering influence on the music we listen to today.
| | Still Amazing by M. Buvia 5 Stars June 12, 2009 I had this on tape and had not listened to it for a while, but when my cruise ship pulled away from dock in Barcelona and they played the title track I knew I had to buy the CD which I play at full blast in my car and still love it after listening too many times to count.

| Solo Collection by Freddie Mercury
Queen's American stock may have fallen somewhat in the 1980s. By following singer Freddie Mercury's lead and embracing more club- and cabaret-oriented music, however, the band saw its international appeal explode. During that era, Mercury also launched a promising solo career that produced two wildly disparate albums, a handful of singles, and contributions to other projects that are documented in this three-disc collection. While 1985's "Mr. Bad Guy" finds Mercury's melodramatic vocal flair...
