| Fun, old school rap by A. Tingler (USA) 4 Stars March 03, 2008 My brother and I had the tape way back when and listened to it so much that we wore the tape out! I just had to get the CD. Everyone always talks about "Supersonic" which is an awesome song, but "Now Really" is probably my favorite song on the album. "Now Really" has some of the funniest, most quotable diss lyrics ever and it alone makes this album worth the purchase! Although there are times when the album has some repetitiveness (and, dare I say it, lameness), I think the album overall has fun, catchy beats and lyrics that make it worth adding to any old school rap collection. And...I am glad someone else noticed Fergie's resampling of "Supersonic" on "Fergalicious".
| | A Deffinate "Must Have" for 80s Music Lovers by William Buckland (Music World) 5 Stars May 30, 2007 When I heard SUPERSONIC for the first time, I was impressed. So much that I went on a hunt to find the LP. I purchased the CD and LP and love them both. The song "WAY OUT" is another favorite of mine. I grew up listening to 80s hip-hop and JJ FAD was right there with SALT N PEPA, LL COOL J and UTFO. They had some nice stuff. I also bought there follow-up "Not Just a Fad" sadly, that album flopped. I hear these days, one of the girls is in the fast food business. Wow, how things change. Anyhow, great album and wont give it up for nothing.
| | Now Really! by LoRemz (San Francisco, CA United States) 5 Stars April 04, 2007 What? Calling this album "tacky" is like calling country music "twangy". Remember, this album is from the 80s and it's one of the first all-female rap groups. Rap has evolved into hip-hop and is much more produced these days. Back in the day, rap was about harmless competition between MCs not bling-bling and Bentleys. LL Cool J's first album is a diss album too. This album is poppy and fun and will remind you of the good old days: dance-offs, amusement parks, skateboarding, rollerskating, school dances, etc. If you grew up doing the "cabbage patch" and the "running man" this album is for you. (PS I still know all the words to "Now Really".)
| | JJ FAD by S. Sabina (KC, MO) 4 Stars January 11, 2007 This CD brought back some memories, I love it and my kids love it. Really the first girl rappers, old school, but real, record scratching and beat making. Great.

| Hot, Cool & Vicious by Salt 'N Pepa
One of the first albums to challenge hip-hop's machocratic sovereignty, Salt-N-Pepa's Hot, Cool & Vicious takes as its musical model Run-D.M.C.'s potent distillation of streetwise repartee, hard-ass bluster and beatbox rhythms. Determined to say it loud and say it proud, r-r-r-rappers Cheryl "Salt" James and Sandy "Pepa" Denton wield their womanhood like an urban-jungle machete, busting unfaithful lovers in "Chick on the Side," threatening female competitors "just for spite" in "I'll Take Your...

| Roxanne Shante's Greatest Hits by Roxanne Shante
This compilation comprises five tracks from Shanté's uneven debut Bad Sister, six from her merciless sequel, The Bitch Is Back, plus an over-produced new song and the deathless hit single, "Roxanne's Revenge," teenage Lolita Gooden's smart-ass riposte to U.T.F.O.'s "Roxanne, Roxanne." Shanté has attitude in her veins, and nobody else can come up with a dis as devastating as hers. When she turns her attention to dance tracks, though, it's not as effective as when she's tearing new orifices in...
