Good CD. But Note to Buyers.. by Rachael (USA) 5 Stars

If you're looking into buying this CD, DON'T judge it on Amazon's previews. Amazon really needs to fix this -- the previews for this album aren't the slightest bit accurate, not even the same genre. It's misleading for the previews to be off, for because of this, it took me forever to hear how this CD -actually- sounds, and having already established Medicine as one of my favorite artists for a while, I was pleased with its true colors and purchased it. This precautious note was my main reason for writing the review, but.. It's a good album, I like it a lot so far. Track four, "She Knows Everything", won't work on my copy of the CD, but I'm sure it's a good song, too. I listened to others in that it expressed Medicine well, and I think it does.. Out of the CD, though, I really like the songs "The Pink", "Babydoll", and "Live it Down". The others are good in their own way, too, though, as they all have Medicine's unique sound, the way they combine noise, stoicity, and a catchy tune is memorable and truely needs to be heard to appreciate. They really are one of a kind.

it's so amazingly brilliant/pretty. even my acquaintances who don't like shoegazey stuff like this. "something goes wrong" is one of the most appallingly good and simple songs i have ever heard. the stars of this band were the drummer jim goodall (a monster!) and of course braddy the brat (brilliant, knows it). i used to write them off as mbv rips--then i got this ...and went back to the equally enticing "shot forth self living" "the buried life" title cribbed from a Matthew Arnold poem, by the by. the shot forth from Blake, i think?! i think goodall dreamed that up cause my friend said he reads Joyce and stuff. a drummer-reader? amazing. i loves the meds!!!

elegant noise! by HeidiKakes (NY) 5 Stars

This has been one of my favorite albums for nearly a decade. Everything about it is just beautiful--from the feedback-drenched guitars to Beth's airy vocals this album is a shoegaze/noisepop masterpiece. Recommended for fans of My Bloody Valentine and Slap Happy Humphrey.

an overdosage of innovation by Justin Greenewald (Elizabeth, PA USA) 5 Stars

This is their best work. You will never hear another band use a guitar in this manner. Brad Laner likes to crank the treble all the way up and leave the vocals as the sole source of midrange. The noisy guitar sounds in the backround are kept together by Beth and Brad's harmonies. They have the knack for making you wonder which one is really the melody. In all this album will give you a sense of flight. They take a different approach to giving the same feel that U2 instills... not that they sound at all alike. "The Pink" and "Never Click" are my personal favorites, although the haromony parts really stand out on "When Something Goes Wrong". This is a perfect example of how noise can be pleasant when it is used correctly... it is impossible to turn this up loud enough!

Skip the cacophonous opener and you'll find a dandy guitar band from L.A. that likes to coat its tunes with a tough patina of distortion. "Five," with its bell-like melody, is a starting point for modern-rockers. --Jeff Bateman

Medicine is another studio group that owes a strong debt to the Valentines, but Los Angeles-based songwriter/producer Brad Laner finally emerges from Kevin Shields' shadow on Her Highness, the band's third and best album. For the first time, songs such as "All Good Things" and "Candy Candy" are strong enough that they would shine even if you took away the highly stylized production, massive guitars and keyboards, and mysterious layers of strings that are the band's reason for being. --Jim...

The Mechanical Forces of Love

The brainchild of guitarist Brad Laner, Los Angeles trio Medicine play a melodic, rhythmic style of noise-rock that has been tagged 'dream-pop.' Laner began performing in his early teens in such local bands as Vox Pop and Nervous Gender after developing a taste for such avant-garde rock performers as Captain Beefheart, Throbbing Gristle, Yoko Ono, and the Residents. The band released 3 albums starting in 1992, and now return on Astralwerks, inspired by Kid 606 and vocalist Shannon Lee, a...

Vinyl LP pressing. 2009 digitally remastered edition of this seminal 1991 album from one of the most influential British guitar bands of the '80s and '90s. The original line up of the Shoegazing legends, with their awe-inspiring mix of feedback guitar and indistinct lyrics, have influenced countless bands since their 1988 debut, Isn't Anything. Loveless, the long-delayed follow-up performed well beyond anyone's expectations and has remained one of the most cherished releases of it's time....
