While not as much of a commercial success as Quentin Tarantino's later film Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs is today regarded as a classic, although happily one that doesn't take itself too seriously. With its out-of-sequence narrative involving a diamond heist, its desperate characters expressing opinions on music and cinema, and the constant radio play (all the film's music is from source cues), Dogs remains shocking and exhilarating. Even stronger on the CD is the implication that the story is somehow being told by Steven Wright's deadpan '70s disc jockey. Tracks include "Little Green Bag" by the George Baker Selection, "Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Swede, "I Gotcha" by Joe Tex, "Coconut" by Harry Nilsson, and the one that will always remind viewers of the movie's grisliest scene, "Stuck in the Middle with You" by Stealers Wheel. --Stanley Booth

the cd is scratched and skips throughout but i guess thats what you get for buying a used cd online. it was just wasted money. the descriptionof the product was a complete lie. it said like new but the truth is that the cd should never have been offered up for sale. i'll think again before i order from amazon. my used cds from ebay have all been in good condition.

Great songs! 'I Gotcha' makes me smile every time it comes on. 'Little Green Bag' and 'Fool For Love' are great too!

Tarentino's first soundtrack was just as eccentrically spot-on as any other he would continue to explore, though you could argue this one works as his most cohesive disc since they tied Wright's DJ character throughout the impressively obscure track list.

Ingenious by Ballerina (Australia) 5 Stars

The Tarantino phenomenon begins with "Reservoir Dogs", the film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino which won him worldwide acclaims and gave him his first break. This 1991 film is about six perfect strangers with colour-coded aliases (Mr Orange, Mr White, Mr Blonde, Mr Pink, Mr Brown and Mr Blue) pulling off a simple heist. But one of them is an undercover cop and the story ends with the most moving and unexpected twist despite all the typical Tarantino blood, gore and violence. The film is absolutely captivating not only because of Tarantino's marvellously creative direction but also his brilliant choice of music which creates the most unexpected impact on the audience. This CD is the original film soundtrack with 16 tracks plus the dialogue. Well, who can ever forget the violent ear-hacking torture scene accompanied by Stealers Wheel's delightful "Stuck In the Middle With You". Ingenious!

"Stuck in the Middle With You" and "You Never Can Tell" now induce indelible visual images that have little to do with Steealer's Wheel and Chuck Berry their respective creators. They've been co-opted (and, some might argue, corrupted) by Quentin Tarantino, arguably the most music-savvy of '90s filmmakers. The soundtrack to Tarantino's Jackie Brown is heavy on '70s R&B (Bobby Womack, Brothers Johnson, Bill Withers, Minnie Ripperton) studded with oddities (Johnny Cash singing "Tennessee Stud," a...

Kill Bill: Volume 1

Kill Bill: Volume 1

Fashion be damned: Pop culture is just one big Hometown Buffet for writer-director Quentin Tarantino. Nowhere has that sensibility been more apparent than on his hand-picked soundtrack choices, and this oft tongue-in-cheek tale of a female assassin's revenge (his first film in six years) is no exception. With dizzy, almost palpable glee, Tarantino evokes the international hall-of-mirrors influences that energize martial arts films and much of Asian pop culture in general. Thus the ...

Quentin Tarantino wraps up his dizzy double-dose of martial arts film tribute cum informed paean to junk cinema with the throw-it-all-against-wall abandon that's become his cliched trademark, if not necessarily his true strength as a filmmaker. That sensibility has long informed his quirky, world-pop savvy soundtracks as well, though this chapter's collection gratifyingly sacrifices a dollop of eclecticism in favor of a little more focused nuance. Revolving loosely around a decidedly...
