Underrated gem from the 70s...but no way am I paying over $20 the CD! by Il Moro di Venezia (Seattle, WA) 3 Stars

I remember picking up this album in Argus Tapes & Records (Wichita's local music/head shop chain) after hearing them play "Fifty-Four". I liked it and figured that any band laying down a track that good had to have more where that came from. I wasn't far off. But it's not like this was "Romantic Warrior" or "Heavy Weather". About half the tracks are forgettable, but the ones that are good are quite good -- and these are primarily the instrumental cuts. In addition to "Fifty-Four" the workout tunes are "A Lotta Colada" and the standout "On the Wing" -- I'd pay $20 just for that tune alone. Unfortunately the going price on Amazon for this CD seems to be $40. Sorry guys. I understand the concept of supply and demand. But I simply can't see my way to that scenario. Maybe this one will get re-re-released on CD for a more civil price. Incidentally, if you know enough about Sea Level to be dangerous you probably have read that some of these guys played with the Allman Brothers band. But don't pick up this CD expecting to hear that sound... you'll be disappointed.

Wow 89 dollars for this one! by Marcel Wild (Matieland 7602 South Africa) 4 Stars

I recently wrote a review about a rare GladysKnight&thePimps cd that's on sale for 50 dollar but which I fortunately have on vinyl. While I claimed that 50 bucks were still a worthwile investment for that jewel, I'm hard pressed to say the same about my vinyl "On the edge" which sells for 89 bucks. Don't get me wrong, this is fine jazz-rock fusion with only one or two weaker tracks, but man, we're not all millionaires! So the only advice I can give is: Stick to more affordable fusion highlights such as TheGoingsEasy, or the Chicago Live at Carnegie Hall (1969)triple cd.
