| Amazing! by 3V0L1NT3NT (Cali) 5 Stars June 18, 2008 This is one of the best EPs I have ever came across. All three songs are just brutal. I would highly recommend getting this CD with the two bonus demo tracks but if you have the Nightmares Made Flesh special edition with the two bonus track then don't get this version I did by mistake but I still love it.
| | does the job, and good. by W. De Bruin 5 Stars July 08, 2006 a tribute to old school death metal, and very well executed by these 4 guys. this is old school death metal in a 3-song summary.
their first full length, Resurrection Through Carnage, is great as well, but this one is a bit rawer and less polished. their third effort, Nightmares Made Flesh, is still good in it's own way, but floated a bit away from the concept. discs like Breeding Death justify EP's.
| | Gore metal featuring some of Sweden's finest by Tom Z (USA) 4 Stars August 07, 2004 The legends Mike Ackerfeldt, Dan Swano, Jonas Renske, and Anders Nystrom get to together to form a supergroup...and they decide to make gore metal!? They do the whole disembowel, kill and burn everthing image well enough but I can't help but think they squandered an opportunity to make something truly amazing. It really dosen't take a whole lot to make this kind of music, which acheives it's effect through simplicity. Having heard all their primary projects, it just seems like their capable of a lot more. This is good though for what it is. Ackerfeldt sounds f*cking possesed, almost like Chris Barnes in his prime though maybe even better. Both Ackerfeldt and Renske did the lyrics so of course their well done. Don't know what alot of the other reviewers are thinking when they say this sounds nothing like the members other projects, I'm hearing alot of Unorthodox-era Edge of Sanity distortion mixed with Brave Murder Day-era Katatonia influences. The drums are the only things that really need improvement. While his calculated strikes and formulated drum beats may work well for his other projects, Swano needs to let loose a bit for something like Bloodbath. Add some blast beats and don't be so meticousely precise. Overall, this is a quality album and I'd recommend getting it but I would buy the members other stuff first.
| | I gave RTC 2 stars cuz it SUCKS! by Cory G. (Vic, Australia) 5 Stars May 26, 2004 Before I write this, don't buy their LP Resurrection Through Carnage, it predictabilty, monotony and plain crappiness are unbelievable. This cd however is absolutely awesome. All three songs are awesome and track 3, Furnace Funeral (my favourite Bloodbath song) is just damn awesome. The cd is fairly heavy and not overdone, while keeping melodious passages in it, rather like Opeth, but whereas Opeth were 95% Melody, 5% Brutality, Bloodbath are exactly the opposite. The drumming is good enough and actually does some sick beats and cool double bass. The riffs are fantastic, the bass is good when it is audible, what else can I say. By the way, the Vocals are just god-damn awesome, Mikael doesn't sing a note here! Nothin' but sick old school death metal! Buy, buy, buy!
| | Good friendly violent fun by SverreB (Oslo, Norway) 5 Stars May 10, 2003 Sometimes, one needs to let off some steam, and for its normally quite restrained members, Bloodbath is probably the equivalent of you or me going on a week's booze bender. While Mikael Åkerfeldt possesses one of the best death metal voices around, Opeth isn't really a death metal band. Similarly, Bloodbath sounds nothing like Katatonia or any of drummer/producer Dan Swanö's innumerable other projects. All the aforementioned bands have a certain sophistication and a level of virtuous grace. Bloodbath, however, has no civility whatsoever. Åkerfeldt sounds like he is passing ten-pound kidney stones while normally quite melodious guitarist Anders Nyström delivers a sound more akin to that of a chainsaw. But how about the songs? All three of 'em are excellent, with the mighty "Furnace funeral" as the highlight. Bloodbath's considerable charm derives from the fact that this is four good buddies getting together to have rude fun. If you like driving rhythms, punishing guitar work and gargled lyrics celebrating the unsubtle joys of disembowelment, you'll have great fun too. I certainly do.
