EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Amazon.com As Incubus themselves note about Epic's 2000 rerelease of 1996's Fungus Amongus: "The recording's are basically a snapshot of our band, circa 1993-1995. As even the most discriminating ear could deduce, [we were] still struggling to find our feet." It's a caveat not really necessary for Incubus fans, of which there are now many, thanks to their diverse, unique, and thoughtful brand of funky, sometimes-acoustic rock, exemplified on 1999's impressive Make Yourself. This early effort, written and recorded when band members were in their teens, smacks heavily of Primus and Faith No More fanaticism, influences which, on later discs, are blended into an evolving signature sound. Songs such as "Speak Free," "Trouble in 421," and the aggressive, linear "The Answer" are decent, but not as heavy, well-written, or thoughtful as the material on Make Yourself. Ultimately, Fungus Amongus is a lightweight, casual, fun, and funky morsel for hardcore fans. --Katherine Turman |

| Good Seller/Bad Item by S. Massey 1 Stars November 05, 2009 Two of the songs were scratched. The buyer responded within a couple of days and told my I could send it back for a refund. He also let me know when he recieved it and that I should have my refund back within the next couple of weeks.
| | Some good, some not so good... by Leonard Robison Aamodt (Provo, UT USA) 4 Stars July 23, 2009 I used to only have Hilikus (which is amazing) in the album so I was expecting much more once I actually got the rest of the songs. Although I was disappointed with most of the songs in this album the music is still very skillful and still incubus. sink beneath the line and hilikus put this album from a 3-star to a 4-star rating.
| | Possibly the best Incubus album ever?? by K. Lichosyt (Chicago, IL) 4 Stars March 30, 2008 Funk metal at its finest. This record is pure energy all the way through. It's also very fun to listen to. The musicianship is startling, considering that this was written when the band members were still in their teen years. The sweet drumming, groovy bass and super-creative guitar are impressive, with solos and funky instrumental breaks everywhere.
This sounds absolutely nothing like the Incubus most people know and love, but that's not necessarily a bad thing at all. The songs aren't very complex or sophisticated, but most of them are highly entertaining, even if the lyrics can be a little "out there" at times. There's a video for "Take Me to Your Leader" which you can probably find on the internet or one of their DVD's. The silliness there gives you a good idea of what "Fungus Amongus" is all about.
Standout tracks are "Psychopsilocybin," "Trouble in 421," "Hilikus" and "Sink Beneath the Line."
| | Starting Up by Kevin Pope (Athens, GA) 4 Stars January 18, 2008 This was the music Incubus played before they made it big. Must have for Incubus fans.
| | If youre lookin for the Morning View or Make Yourself Incubus... by James Pierce (California) 3 Stars December 06, 2007 move along... Think early RHCP meets Primus mates w/ early Korn... It doesnt suck, just not for me...

| A Crow Left of the Murder by Incubus
Kicking in like a compellingly acrimonious version of Rush ("Megalomaniac") before meandering through what can rather uncomfortably be termed noodly, time-signature lottery jazz-metal terrain A Crow Left of Murder probably identifies Incubus as the average Pearl Jam fan's second-choice for chin-stroking mosh action. Brendon O'Brien (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam) produces and singer Brandon Boyd possibly fancies himself as a bit of a Vedder-esque sage, even blustering "My secret arsenal is an infinite...

| Light Grenades by Incubus
A rare case in which a band actually gets better with time, this California hard rock quintet seems to have finally grown into its skin on its fifth album. Casting off the dated slap-bass funk and pointless nu-metal angst of its early years (well, mostly), Light Grenades is not only a worthwhile follow-up to 2003's A Crow Left of the Murder--the expansive disc many fans consider Incubus's best--but shows improvements all around. Singer Brandon Boyd has learned to temper the words he plucks out...
