| New York City Cops by Carstereo Ratliff (USA) 5 Stars June 26, 2009 "new york city cops, they ain't to smarrrrrrrrt!" that's all i need to say, find it and listen to it.
i first found this band in an article back in 2001, they were at the time Striaght-up Velvet Underground style "Bright Lights, White Heat"..... something premature to New Wave, Indie at its finiest and most raw of roots....... i saw them live circa 2002, a time when new york city cops had been deleted off the US LP, but remained on the UK release. I had the have the import...... check it out and also the newer albums as well, somewhat like a clash between the Velvets, the Clash, the Cars, and the Pretenders......... Julian and the guyz are rough-tough and ready.........
"Is this it?" you bet!

| | Their Finest Album, Excelent CD Version by FEZZ (CO) 5 Stars July 31, 2008 Bought this about a month ago and was really worth it, cool music, nice artwork, bonus DVD, what else could you want? may not be the most original music, but it's as well done and fresh as we need it nowadays
Their first keeps being the best of the 2 albums so far, each song is good, and the Bonus DVD is a nice touch, also the artwork is better in my opinion than the us one.
Strokes fans; get it while it lasts! Strokes haters: what the h-ell are you doing here?!
| | LET ME SAVE YOU A LOT OF TIME by Roxanne Jorgensen (Washington State, USA) 5 Stars July 22, 2006 This is important, If you order the one titled:
Is This It (Bonus DVD) (Special Limited Edition) [ENHANCED] [LIMITED EDITION]
YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!! I'm sure it's a great cd but you have to order it from the amazon stores by people that are very unreliable.
I had ordered it because I liked the artwork on it more than the [UK] version. Its the exact same CD!! I had baught the U.S. one from a place called
"woody's books"
and "vdowarehouse"
here off amazon and they never came.
YOU MUST BUY DIRECTLY FROM AMAZON.com (way safer) Thats why this one is a good choice, once I had ordered it from here (amazon.com) it had came earlier than the 4-6 weeks. It came in 3 days!
Besides who cares about the artwork, ignore the controversy (all it is is a naked girl with a black glove. WHO CARES!!) Now that I own it I have changed my mind and noticed the artwork is really good on this cd. The best artwork on any of their cds in my opinion!
Anyways it's the music that counts. Which is exactly the same as the U.S. version.
Plus aside from the three videos that are on it's included dvd there are two never aired shows on there that I'm not sure if the U.S. version has.
| | This IS It! by Kal (Warwickshire, UK) 5 Stars April 18, 2006 Think back to April/June 2001...! Remember how crap the musical landscape was? Nothing but Limp nu-metal, tired hip-hop and Pop Idol wannabe's. Thank the lord for the Strokes. With a bunch of great tunes and a fab image, they made this masterpiece; the best debut album since Definitely Maybe and the catalyst for a whole new generation of rock n'roll bands. The album is a true classic and there is no Killers, Franz Ferdinand or Arctic Monkeys without it. Buy it. Love it. ESSENTIAL!!!
| | the real first album by Ryan M. Moore (boca ration, fl) 5 Stars March 31, 2006 There are only two problems with the Strokes' Is This It:
1) they should have kept this original artwork that was marketed in Europe rather than fear they were going to offend someone. It's not like it's "Smell The Glove."
2) New York City Cops is a great, great song and way better than the middle-of-the-road replacement they stuck on at the last minute because they were afraid of, once again, offending someone in the wake of September 11. It's true: New York City cops ain't too smart!
Lesson to all aspiring artists: when in doubt, take risks.

| Room on Fire by The Strokes
An acclaimed debut prompts one of two kinds of follow-ups: either the band strives to broaden their palate or they attempt to deepen the colors they splashed all over that heralded first effort. The Strokes' second outing falls in the latter camp. In the tradition of the Ramones' Leave Home and Oasis' (What's the Story) Morning Glory, the Strokes largely stay the course with their second full-length release, producing an album that won't cause the stir that its predecessor did, but has a sneaky...

| First Impressions of Earth by The Strokes
Their prospects dangerously over-inflated by pundits who often hailed their debut as nothing short of rock-messianic, New York City's Strokes got a lesson in cynical rock-press dynamics when their biz-troubled, if similarly toned, '03 follow-up was dutifully dismissed as the proverbial sophomore slump. A lesser band might have been chastened by the experience; this one responds with a third album that positively bristles with energetic challenges. Revolving around a loose concept that allows...

| Is This It by The Strokes
With all the media hype that dogged the Strokes before the release of their debut album, it's rather apt that they chose the title Is This It. On the strength of just five songs released on two singles, the Strokes were being hailed as everything from the saviors of rock & roll to the Savior himself. Surely, few bands could live up to the impossibly high standards set for this young five-piece, but the band needn't have worried: Is This It is one of the most exciting and energetic debut albums...

| Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not by Arctic Monkeys
Musically, there are bits of The Stone Roses, "What's The Story Morning Glory", and "Nevermind". As catchy as those reference points are, it's the songwriting that has won the band a fiercely dedicated following; a mix of the observational storytelling of Davies and Weller crossed with the harsher documentary eye of Mike Skinner of The Streets and "Ghost Town" era Specials. Two #1 UK singles. Press already lined up with Rolling Stone, Spin, Entertainment Weekly, and Interview, to name a few....
