EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Ever since Substance Abuse dropped their critically acclaimed single “What The F**k You Rhymin' For” back in 2000, they have been hailed as the emissaries of the golden era in Hip Hop when you couldn’t put out anything less than classic material. Following up with singles featuring lyrical heavyweights MF Doom, Rasco, and P.E.A.C.E. of Freestyle Fellowship, Substance Abuse has had fans eagerly awaiting their first full-length release. Now with “Overproof”, a term signifying ‘more than ample evidence’ of their eminent dopeness, Substance Abuse aims to even out the playing field with a collection of heartfelt tracks that will remind the world what Hip Hop is supposed to sound like. It’s no wonder that they made Urb Magazine’s ‘Next 100’ for 2005! “These guys are dope, no pun intended.” -Hip Hop Diva #3 “After breakfast, it‘s Substance Abuse all day long!” -Hip Hop Health Board (HHHB) The lyrics are addictive, and the beats are straight-up habit forming” -Grammatical B |

| If Noam Chomsky Were a Rapper by J. Sattler (Eagle Rock, CA USA) 5 Stars August 17, 2008 If Noam Chomsky were a rapper, he'd spend the rest of his life trying to equal Substance Abuse's "Collateral Damage." This a great album. But I do wish that the members of SA -- Eso Tre and Subz -- would make their goatees more distinguishable.
| | Finally, substance... by Gabriel Mikulich (San Francisco) 5 Stars January 03, 2008 I have seen what some critics have written, and although all have given this album positive marks, I think that the claims that this album is a throw back to yester year are inaccurate. It think that the only thing that makes this album appear like it might be from the past is the fact that you actually have emcees talking about something more than just cars, and clothes, and non substance. The beats are sick and with heavy base lines, while the lyrics are playful, witty, thought provoking, without trying too hard.
This album has a long list of cameo appearances from famed Rappers from the golden age, but I think that each song and each delivery is something fresh. I was really pleased by the diversity of beats, the themes, and delivery presented on this album, and only hope that it does not take these guys too long before they deliver the next one.
If you want real hip hop, I recommend you pick this up.
| | rock solid hip hop record! by Danny Lee (hollywood, ca, usa) 5 Stars December 14, 2006 listening to this album is food for thought. and in a rare instance, overproof doesn't feel like a throwback album, but a step forward. the beats are thick, rhymes insightful, the vibe cool. highly recommend adding this album to your collection.
| | Awesome Album by Becky Shahvar (San Francisco, CA) 5 Stars October 05, 2006 Subz and Eso Tre are the dopest rap group to come out in over ten years. Buy this album!"
| | must buy by Ryan W. Parker (fl) 5 Stars April 30, 2006 This cd brings a light into the world of hip-hop. With all the garbage that gets labeled hip-hop these days, its nice to listen to a group with heart, love, and respect for hip-hop. This is the best cd I have bought in a long time. If you love hip-hop then this is a must buy. The verbal stylings of Eso Tre and Subz leave you wanting more. I personally cant wait till the drop antha album.. I will buy that too.

| Dr. Dooom 2 by Dr. Dooom (Kool Keith)
After single-handedly redefining "warped" as the mind and mouth behind the Bronx-based Ultramagnetic MC's, "Kool" Keith Thornton, aka Rhythm X, aka Dr. Octagon, aka Dr. Dooom, headed for the outer reaches of the stratosphere with a variety of solo projects. A onetime psychiatric patient at Bellevue, Keith's lyrical thematics remained as free-flowing here as they ever were with the N.Y. trio, connecting up complex meters with fierce, layers-deep metaphors and veiled criticisms of those who...

| Operation Doomsday by MF Doom
Underneath his mysterious metal mask, MF Doom hides the cachet underground legends are made of. After KMD's 1994 sophomore album Bl_ck B_st_rds was turfed by Elektra in 1994 and Subroc (one half of the sibling rhyme duo) passed away, surviving KMD member Zev Love X mutated into the MC Avenger known as MF Doom. The Rap world is better for it. This 19-cut deep album is ridiculously dope, in a bizarro Ol' Dirty Bastard kind of way. Doom sounds either high or drunk on most of the tracks, his...
