EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Album Description In 2004, U.K. favorite Muse broke through in the U.S. with Absolution and major performances across America that won legions of new fans. In 2006, Muse takes a bold new step with Black Holes And Revelations, a powerful, upbeat epic album that takes the band’s music to a whole dimension. Once again co-produced by Rich Costey (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave), Muse incorporates influences from electronica and Prince to pure pop. The album is sure to be a revelation to those still unfamiliar with the 2005 Brit award winner for Best Live Act who headlines this summer’s Reading and Leeds festivals. | Amazon.com Sounding like the confident, ambitious superstars they already are in their native UK, Muse follows up their breakthrough Absolution with an album that tempers the trio's unabashed grandiosity and apocalyptic obsessions with a smart pop groove. The minimalist angst of the opening "Take A Bow" may bridge the goth-pop conceits of the collection's successful predecessor, but those expectations are quickly kicked aside by "Starlight"'s synth-pop bliss, the falsettoed, space-disco thump of "Supermassive Black Hole" and the chilly, New Wave redux sheen of "Map of the Problematic"; so much for being held hostage to those early Radiohead comparisons. Indeed, on the lilting "Soldier's Poem" vocalist Matthew Bellamy cannily channels Freddie Mercury while "Assassin" pulses with the familiar metallic nerve and lyrical dread of Muse past. But by the time "Knights of Cydonia" erupts in a wrenching, melodramatic climax that somehow fuses ELP, Davie Allan, Procul Harum and Chris Isaak with enough giddy abandon to suspend disbelief, Muse have long since proved their case as genre-be-damned rock world-beaters. --Jerry McCulley |

| Great CD!!! by T. S. Glass (NC USA) 5 Stars November 01, 2009 This is a great CD. I never heard of MUSE before going to a U2 concert. But I got this CD and I listen to it. And it ROCKS!!! I feel like I need to fight to survive!!!!!
| | not bad! by William Otey (woodbridge, va. usa) 4 Stars October 24, 2009 this album had to grow on me, but when it did i was fairly happy. But unfortunately i can't say the same about their earlier albums, having a hard time getting past the lead singers falsetto! hardcore fans i'm sorry about the last remark, but i did dig black holes and revelations!
| | A new Muse fan by JoGib (Oregon, USA) 5 Stars October 05, 2009 The first I heard of Muse was in the Twilight soundtrack. Then Adam Lambert singing Starlight at an AI concert, which I loved. So I was prompted to buy this CD and I really love the sound. A lot of interesting musical combinations - especially love the sound of the heavy piano chords in some of the songs, which I personally think goes very well with the alternative rock sound. I like this CD better than their new release
| | Great Album by Hae-Yu 5 Stars September 30, 2009 Black Holes and Revelations shows Muse as masters of their art. While previous albums were held together by a similar style, BHR is held together by its sheer audacity. For years, Muse has been compared to Radiohead or Queen (not without reason), but on BHR, Muse shows they are not slaves, but masters over many styles.
Everything from 70s' Glam to 00's electronica and Big Beat is seamlessly blended here without sounding forced or artificial. I was particularly surprised to hear flamenco underlaid with trance/prog house morph into anthem rock complete with orchestral scoring morph into a trance break on "City of Delusion." "Map of the Problematique" is a big nod to New Order musically (same feel as the latter half of "Perfect Kiss"), yet flows with the rest of the album.
Every song is good, none are fillers. It works just as well on headphones as it does cranking.
| | If you don't have it, get it by J. L. Cravens (Tn.) 5 Stars August 26, 2009 Take a Bow is epic, it is like watching a star being born. The lyrics are still timely, which is distressing when you realize it came out several years ago. I love how the song builds and unfolds on itself. Starlight is driven and sonic, a beautiful song with a powerful beat and strong piano. Supermassive Black Hole is sexy. I don't care what anyone has to say about it being cheesey or whatever. It is a very sexy song, the layers of bass line are fantastic, and Matt's vocals are as fluid as ever. Map of the Problematique is like a classic Muse song, it would easily fit on Absolution. Soldier's Poem is just heartbreaking in it's truth. Yes, 'it is a shame we're all dying. How could you send us so far away from home? There is no justice in the world, and there never was'. Amen, Matt. Assassin is throbbing and pounding, with kick butt guitar, with a message of revolution. Knights of Cydonia is my favorite. It just builds and builds to guitar god heaven. I simply can't listen to it though without thinking of the video with the galloping horse and the space cowboys! I can barely contain myself until September 15th, when we will have more MUSE at last!
