EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Album Description Formed in Athens, Ohio, SKELETONWICH has been launching metal assaults on an unsuspecting underground since 2003. The members of THE WITCH are bonded by the universal truth, that heavy metal is the law, thereby unleashing the band's brand of ripping, epic thrash. Everything begins with the purity and aggression of the 80's Bay Area thrash scene, but SKELETONWITCH further fuels its evil onslaught with elements of black and Viking metal while proudly waving the NWOBHM flag. Imagine a young Metallica, Megadeath, Slayer and Exodus slamming beers and cranking up immortal records at a ranger in 1985. Just when you think the keg is killed, Judas Priest joins the party with a fresh case of beer. |

| From the eyes of the beholder... by James Simmons (Michigan) 5 Stars November 30, 2008 I didn't know much about this band until they opened for Dimmu Borgir. I was directly up front and center, at the barrier, for all bands. Skeletonwitch played first and I was completely FLOORED. They put on an incredible live show. Their performance had me thrashing through out their entire set. Immediately following their performance, my friends ran back to their merch stand and purchased CDs, hoodies, shirts, etc. The only reason I didn't was because I was NOT going to loose my spot for when Dimmu took the stage. If this wasn't the circumstance, I would have rushed to the stand with them.
If you are looking for a place where metal is being kept alive in newer bands, look no further than Skeletonwitch!
| | My God This Band Is No Joke!!!!! by Jeffrey A. Haffa Jr. 5 Stars October 15, 2008 i saw this band in atlanta on the 13th for the blackest of the black tour, i hadnt really heard them so me and my friends thought that skeletonwitch wasnt going to be that great. They surprised the hell out of us!!!!! they were the opening act and they came in like they were headlining, the description doesnt to this band justice even though it is right about the marshalls and duel flying v's. iall i can say is get this cd and definitily try to get a ticket to the blackest of the black tour every band was amazing and its totally worth the 28 bucks!!!!!!
| | Supersonic Brutality! by W. Bowes (California) 5 Stars August 08, 2008 Skeletonwitch are sick! These guys are one of the most insane bands I have heard in a long time. Try to imagine a band ten times as fast and heavy as Slayer (one of my favorite bands) and you would just be scratching the surface of Skeletonwitch's sound. I really hope these guys come out with a new release soon. If you are looking for something heavy, this is the album you want to pick up. It's really difficult not to listen to this album and just get pumped up. I hope they stay on the scene for a long time.
| | From the high and mighty snowcapped mountains of...Ohio, actually, these guys rock! by William Dorfer 5 Stars May 29, 2008 If there are some people out there that think metal is dead, just let them give this a spin and let them dispose of their theory. The Ohio-based blackened epic-thrash band Skeletonwitch is definitely an awesome present-day metal band. I say present-day as opposed to contemporary or modern because this band definitely doesn't sound like any of the dime-a-dozen contemporary metalcore bands out there.
No, folks, this is good old-fashioned thrash metal with a mix of black metal, a bit of NWOBHM riffage (New Wave of British Heavy Metal), and epic viking metal. The songs are all relatively short, but they definitely deliver headbanging, guitar-wailing goodness. From the first couple seconds of "Upon Black Wings", I was blown away by these guys.
What's cool about Skeletonwitch is that they have plenty of talent, but they don't take it upon themselves to be too serious. This is some fun metal with the sort of epic, wintery feel of a band like Immortal. If you want a throwback to the classic metal era, or want to listen to a band with lots of talent and cool songs, give this a listen! Thanks for the time, and peace.
| | Excellent melodic death metal by Greg Lara (San Jose, CA) 5 Stars April 18, 2008 Skeletonwitch delivers a disk that sounds familiar while keeping it fresh. This one's been monopolizing my CD player for some time now and the more I play it the more I like it: the riffing reminds me of Defleshed, but smoother; the leads are melodic, the rhythms are chugging and propulsive; and the songs exhibit enough variety to keep things interesting. This is a record for guitar lovers; the cookie monster vocals, while not unpleasant, are wisely keep far back in the mix so you can really focus on the guitar work. One of the best records to come out in the last twelve months.
