It rocks! by Friendlycard (Norfolk, UK) 5 Stars
January 21, 2009
Sea Level was a band which emerged from the Allman Brothers and produced some really innovative rock music between 1977 and 1980. The band became notably rockier after Randall Bramblett joined. 'Ball Room' (1980) was the last of five albums from the band; is certainly the heaviest; and, with the possible exception of 'On the Edge', might be considered the best. There are some really catchy rockers here. Unlike the other Sea Level albums (released by Capricorn), 'Ball Room' was an Arista album, which might explain why, until now, it had never, to my knowledge, been issued in CD format. This has been a significant gap which has now been filled by this release, which is a nicely produced Japanese CD on the paper sleeve/LP replica format. Such releases are usually premium-priced, low-volume limited editions, and swiftly become collectibles. If you like Sea Level (or southern rock more generally), add this to your collection whilst stocks last. It's a great album!
