EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Album Description 2008 reissue of this absolute classic album from the L.A. Punk band led by Darby Crash and guitarist Pat Smear. Produced by Joan Jett, this album remains the band's only officially recorded album and is a testament not only to their vision but also to the exciting musical times of the late '70s. |

| Why settle for this when MIA is still available? by D. K. Malone (earth) 5 Stars July 21, 2009 Just wanted to point out that there's little reason to buy this CD when you can get the 'Germs MIA' CD which contains this entire album + the rest of Germs entire discography. I guess MIA costs a few dollars more... if you're pinching your pennies (and who isn't these days?) this one might be the way to go. But man, the idea of going without songs like No God, the first version of Lexicon Devil, or My Tunnel... that would suck.
EDIT: ...and now that this edition is finally unavailable, this review is irrelevant.
| | Nevermind The Sex Pistols by DurangoSlim 5 Stars December 24, 2008 Ah yes the Germs. What can I say? They're fast, loud, aggressive, every thing a punk band band should be. And this album proves that they aren't your average run-of-the-mill punk band. The Germs were smart, powerful and philosophical. Don't believe me? Just look at the lyrics. Darby obviously paid a lot attention to Bowie. The songs just comes at you full force, taking the sound of the Ramones and gave it an extra dose of adrenaline. I recommend this album to any punk fan.
| | First Hardcore Punk LP Ever by Will Smith (Arlington, TX United States) 4 Stars December 11, 2008 This LP came out in 1979 and was produced by Joan Jett. I love the song melodies and the music has some speed and force to it. Darby can't really sing and the band can't really play all that well but neither can alot of good or great song-writters. Then again, alot of technically accomplished musicians can't write to save their lives.
Anyway, this records is transcendent to me. It has all the growling, distortion, speed and other essential elements of a good punk rock record. It was just ahead of it's time.

| Damaged by Black Flag
Founded by guitarist/songwriter Greg Ginn, Black Flag exploded out of L.A. in 1981 with a debut album so confrontational that MCA Records refused to release it, stating that Black Flag was "immoral" and lacking "redeeming social value." When the album finally came out on Ginn's own SST label, it was clear why MCA recoiled, as Black Flag's skinhead look and hardcore sound signaled a new chapter in punk--and rock in general. With Henry Rollins's venom-dripping vocals leading the way, the album...
| | | Complete Discography by Minor Threat
Fugazi fans already know that this is the original gospel according to Ian MacKaye. This Washington, D.C., quartet hit harder, faster, and franker than just about anybody--and were willing to see through their own bull as quickly as anyone else's. MacKaye manages to be charismatic and confrontational at the same time: tossing brilliant, genuinely funny asides into his serious-as-a- heart-attack lyrics. Meanwhile, the band, led by Lyle Preslar's staggering guitar attack, pushes MacKaye on with...

| Songs the Lord Taught Us by The Cramps
The Cramps got away with their Z-movie, zombie-rock schtick because they were so intense in their conviction that it had more value than middlebrow humanist pop. Descending on Memphis to cut their debut album with Big Star legend Alex Chilton, the band served up a thirteen-song punkabilly testament to drive-in anti-culture, replete with garage-band guitars and booming voodoo drums. Versions of "Fever" "Strychnine," and the Johnny Burnette Trio's "Tear It Up" competed with Lux Interior-Poison...

| MIA: The Complete Anthology by The Germs
Formed in 1977, these angry, snotty-boy punks came on like an L.A. version of the Sex Pistols: sneering, shouting, and provoking violence wherever they performed. Leader Darby Crash was genuinely threatening as he railed against the society that had spawned him. Unfortunately, Crash's dark and destructive side would eventually consume him. A mere three years after the band's first gig--and in fitting tribute to his hero and role model, Sid Vicious--Crash died of a drug overdose. This anthology...
